Can iG be installed from external HDD?

Searched for a bit and couldn't find my answer. Does anyone know if iG can be installed from an external HDD?

I do not have a DVD drive in on my CarPC and in order for me to set it up I would have to remove my passenger seat and remove my PC in order to attached an IDE DVD drive. COnsidering that we got 6 inches of snow here today and it's pretty cold I was hoping to do it the lazyman's way and just connect my external HDD with the setup files on it from the DVD. This way I can stay within the confines of my warm vehicle

I tried to install it but it keeps asking to insert disk one after I generate the map files. Not sure if there is an ini file I can modify in order for it to install from whatever source the setup files are on.

Thanks,
Chuck

You need to make a disc image (.iso) and mount it with a virtual drive program like Daemon Tools. I did this with iG3 and it worked great. Only problem for me was sending the giant iso over 802.11b....

Thanks for the reply. I've never used Daemon tool but have read a lot about it in my passing. I'll give that a try and see how I make out.

You can copy the disks 1,2,3 to your hard drive and install it from there. It will find the disks and will install.

Must be in the root of C: to work correctly for map creation.

I installed IG by just copying the files from my test computer as I was in the same situation as you. If you copy the iNav folder from your Program Files, that is all the program files. If you copy the iNav iGuidance folder from the Windows folder, that contains the maps. I zipped both folders and was able to put them on a thumb drive and on my carputer in about 5 minutes. Fully functional.

Basically just copy the raw DVD file structure to the root of C:? The setup file will be in the root and disks will be subdirectories in root?

You just did a raw copy of these directories from your test machine over to your car PC and this worked? You obviously had a previous version though right; so the support files from the old version worked with the new? Interesting. I may try this method first but I have reservations about all the necessary files getting properly updated.

Thanks,
Chuck

Just install everything (program and map) on your test machine as like you will do it on your carPC. Once done, zip the entile installation folder (that include program and maps) and transfer it to your carPC. Normally, maps data is intall in C:\iNav\Maps (or similar), and not with the main program (C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance). I just manually move the Maps folder into iGuidance folder so that everything is inside iGuidance folder.
Now zip iGuidance folder to your Ext HD and extract it in the same folder structure in your CarPC. It will works, and no previous installation require.
