offline log upload mode is currently unavailable which should be restored by tonight.

Just another note too, if you signed up, check your spam folder for confirmation. Sometimes goes there

I tried to signup, but never got an email to confirm and when I try to login it fails. Checked Bulk folder and didn't find email there either, please resend.

Adubb,
I was signed up shortly after you released the newer client.
I have been testing it a bit, but was waiting to be able to upload the offline logs to the site. My internet connection in the car isn't full-time and is spotty most of the time. Therefore, if i'm running in "live mode" and i lose my connection, your website will interpret that as multiple trips.
Maybe I didn't look closely enough, but is there a way for the program to just cache the data and upload it anytime the internet connection gets restored? Otherwise, I'll just always be running in "offline" mode and manually upload the log.

Also, is there a way to have the program automatically connect to a specific COM port and begin logging when the program starts? If I restart my pc, I have to manually select the COM port, the mode I want to use, and then press "connect"

Thanks. I'll give you more feedback once Ive been using a bit longer.

Btw, how do I switch between KM and MPH? Is that in the client or on the website?

Met, the offline uploader should be up later tonight, I was just doing some tweaks on it. As far as your question about if you loose connection what will happened, as soon as the application detects that there is an internet connection it will upload and coordinates that it was unable to process, even if the file is fairly large it shouldn't be a problem because we use some heavy compression on upload.

I just noticed that between this release and the previous the KM and MPH is off, There will be an option to switch it shortly (never took this into consideration). Also, I'm not sure if you are watching live tracking as your driving , but there is an option to change the map drawing refresh rate to match with your upload speed.

The COM port should be detected automatically, however.. are you using vista? and what type of receiver are you using?

- Cheers

Ok, I'll give the "live" mode anther try and see if it uploads properly.
I am running xp pro with xport to split my COM ports. There are several programs that use the gps coordinates. The ports are detected, but I am using COM10 for the newbend client and there are other lower ones (COM3 for example) that are listed first in the drop down.
Is the client supposed to reconnect automatically to the previous state after it has been restarted? Do I still need to manually select "connect" ?

Thanks for the quick feedback.

gotcha, at the moment its manual however next update (which should be soon) will include restoring to previous configuration on client restart. as for live mode .. it will buffer the data even if internet is not available however if the client is shut down and restarted the data will be lost. This option was put into place mostly if the connection drops and restores back.

hey, so i am playing with the beta and it looks like it works good!

But i was wondering if there is a way to embed the map in another site?

I am currently in a two week RV trip and am streaming live video and want to have a map of our position on that same page.

Interesting question Webdog... You want the live map to be streamed? Just your position?

Theres alot of code / ajax / modules that we use in order to show route path and speed variation. It depends what you would want to stream.

We could possibly add a LIVE stream Iframe you could embedd in your page

our main issue is security, we're security freaks

yea i want to be able to let the people that are watching the video be able to see where i am.

so just a dot on the map would be fine, even if it was a gif that updated every min or something like that.

Cool stuff! But... why is the client 12 MB???? Only one screen, getting the GPS coordinates and send it to the server... My god! "GPS Tracker" on PocketPC does the same in 4 kB!

Anyway, nice idea of course, I had the same in '99 ;-). Maybe pay some more attention to your spelling (email me for a list of corrections), that makes it even more professional.

Other people may want to know the GPRS or UMTS bytes used per waypoint, so prepare for some compression. 1kb per waypoint would be doable, costing you about 1 ct per waypoint, but less is very well possible. Net transfer of name/key/lat/lon/speed would be about 50 bytes or so, some overhead...

It would be great if you would extend the interface (I assume you use HTTP to be flexible) in such a fashion that you can select any destionation server running 'any' protocol and 'any' message format. Many logging/tracking clients in embedded devices or PDA's are configurable and allow people to select transfer type (email, sms, http over any bus), along with message format (about 50 sms formats available on POI66 GPS2SMS) and URL format (see also POI66 FAQ).

I would just say: keep the standards open and interface to as many standards as you can. That will empower your app and its acceptance.

Happy GPS-ing and I wish y'all a lot of success!

thanks for the suggestions, and yes it's 12MB but keep in mind this was designed for a carpc not hand held. And its 12MB due to the packaged JRE. I do appreciate your info for the sms/handhelds as that will be next in line after this client/site is stabilized.
