Map Monkey / Destinator trails

I have installed all the necessary software and before buying a GPS receiver, I borrowed a bluetooth TomTom receiver over the weekend. Once the bluetooth side of things was registered (each time I powered up the pc) I could get the Destinator to find the GSP, after about 2 seconds it would be lost again. Off the top of my head the settings COM3, NMEA, baud 56K...

I have read on other threads that NMEA is expected to be at 4800 baud. Could this be the problem?

Which Receiver has been found to me the most reliable?

Car-PC is a VIA EPIA M10000, MX2-ATX power supply, 512M RAM, 80Gig HDD, 7" Lilliput.
