Positioning Accuracy: The AVIC-Z1's navigation system accurately measures your current location by combining the positioning by GPS and Dead Reckoning. The unit includes an 8-channel GPS (Global Positioning System) using a network of satellites orbiting the Earth. The accuracy of the GPS depends upon the number of satellites that can be received at any given time (at least 3 are required). The 3D Hybrid Sensor in the navigation system also calculates your position by detecting driving distance with the speed pulse, the turning direction with the Gyrosensor and inclination of the road with the G sensor.

So yea, it has DR as well.

From what I read on the tyco site, for dead reckoning you have to hook it up to the car's odometer. No clue how that works but my guess is any installer will know how.

Garmin's 18 5Hz has a refresh of... well.. 5Hz. I'm using it for another project(see my sig) and I was hoping tyco made something available in a 5Hz as well. I thought the dead reckoning would be kick ***, but not anymore. Needs to be installed somehow.
I guess it couldn't be 5Hz if they're only $60. Quantities of 16 I know, but that's still cheaper than the Garmin at $250.
Ah well. Still on the hunt for 5Hz+ gps devices.
This one would be cool for an integrated carpc though. Sooo tiny.
Subscribed. Interested to see what comes of this.

Yes, you do. Odometer signal (it calibrates using the GPS signal, so it's fully automatci) and reverse light is all it needs from the car. Super simple to get access to; helps to have schematics/wiring diagrams of your car (any Haynes manual will have it).

I am sure that the Tyco receiver is 1Hz... but if it's any faster, well, that's just the icing on the cake for me!

I hope to make the carrier board as big as this one.

Nope, not a cock tease. I'm just bloody busy with a million other things.

Got my SMA antenna, going to be testing out standard GPS functions. Still trying to find a cheap gyro as well.
