First Pics: Tyco GPS Dead Reckoning Receiver

Just arrived via UPS. Cost is $60/unit in quantities of 16 or more, my account allows me a minimum of 5 units.

This thing is tiny! I ordered the A1029-B, which is basically the -A version sitting on a carrier board with a header and antenna pigtail.

Time to design the PCB, send it to printing and then order the gyro.

w00t.

Bag.

Out of the box.

Compared to a US quarter.

ST ARM CPU.

Tiny *** header.

Back.

Pigtail.

Dead reckoning is 100% on the GPS receiver, the GPS software sees nothing different.

I'll probably come up with a board for people to buy so they can solder it themselves. If there is enough demand, I'll ask Ziplock and see what he says about me selling them.

To Fusion-One. No its not the complete reciever

Think it was said final cost would be around $300

No idea how it compares to the 353 in terms of a receiver, but the 353 has no DR and will not. Anything that offers DR in addition to the receiver will give you good results.

The Ublox setup is $300+.

Estimated cost of my receiver so far:
* $60 -- Tyco Receiver (supplier)
* $30-40 -- Analog Devices Gyro (Digikey)
* $15 -- Active GPS Antenna (eBay)
* $5 -- 0.05" 26-pin header (Digikey)
* $0-30 -- Misc Parts (MAX3232, resistors, caps, optos, backup battery)
* $2.50/sq in -- PCB Fabrication + $10 setup fee

Maximum cost is $175 based on those estimates (2 sq in PCB). Can do it cheaper if you have most of the parts.

Half the cost of the Ublox setup... I wouldn't complain

Actually, this is the whole receiver for just the GPS portion (minus a MAX3232) and voltage regulator... but besides that, it'll work as a GPS receiver.

Any idea what the refresh rate for that device is? Does it update once per second or faster? I can't find the spec on Tyco's site.

I am sure it's just 1Hz, just like the rest of the receivers out there. The lack of smoothness we get is due to software, I believe.

It should track as well as the Pioneer.. if not better. And yes, given Zip-Lock's approval and solid demand.

Does the Z1 connect to the cars speed sensor. If not, this will KICK the Z1's butt.
