Streets and Trips 2007 toolbars dissapearing

I have streets and trips 2007 and now, for some reason when I start the application, I can't see any of the toolbars. When this happens my screen gets a small black square in the upper left corner. When I close streets and trips, the square goes away. Has anyone else had this happen and know of a fix? I would try to re-install but I don't have a cd rom in my carpc so it's going to be a pain to reinstall.

What screen are you using? Is it some sort of auto adjust?

The screen is a 7inch touch, not sure of the brand and its running at 800X600 i believe. The problem is not with auto adjust or anything. I can still see the whole streets and trips window. I still see that title bar with the close, minimize, and maximize buttons. My problem is that all the toolbars disappear. I have no file, edit menus either. When this happens, I get a small square about 1/2"x1/2" in the upper left corner of the screen. If I minimize streets and trips, the square stays there. As soon as I close it, the square goes away. I'm not using any kind of front end and am not using any scripts for streets and trips. I figure I need to re-install the software, but I don't have a cd-rom in the car and its a real pain to hook one up but I may have to break down and do that if nobody has any suggestions.

JohnnyBoy04, what happened before you lost the toolbars? Did the computer crash? Did Streets & Trips crash?

If you can trust me with an exe file, try the following:

Download the latest Beta version of S&T Keys (Beta 2.14.007) from http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/s-t-ke...ets-trips.html

Then just open Streets & Trips by either clicking the S&T Keys.exe or by pressing F2-key shortcut.

You will only need to do this once. It will restore the menu bar for you. On the menu bar then go to View > Toolbars to restore the remaining toolbars you wish to see.

After that you may delete S&T Keys from your computer (or keep it around just in case you experience this issue in the future).

Marvin, I don't know if something happened when I lost the toolbars. The monitor was off, then when I turned it back on It was like that. I just downloaded the file above an tried your method and had no luck.

1. Make sure you downloaded the "Beta" version (not the "Final release" version). Beta download link is just bellow the "final release".

2. Start Streets & Trips 2007 by clicking on the S&T Keys icon (not by clicking on Streets & Trips icon.

It should work. If it doesn't let me know.

Marvin - couple of quick questions -

1) How should we use your keys from within a car front end? On the button definition, call your executable rather than S&T directly?

2) I have the latest keys - actually the beta. It's not working for me to automatically acknowledge the safety warning.

3) Any idea on how to program a skin button to do your F5?

Great little program -- even if you don't call yourself a programmer

Keys is a nice little app.
Thanks Marvin.

Now, all we need to do is get into the program to change map colors and such like theme.ini in iGuidance!

Cheers

The reason I mentioned S&T Keys in this forum was to help the original poster with his menu bar gone missing :-) Last two beta versions of S&T Keys contain the following line which should solve his issue:

Code:
RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Automap\14.0\ToolBars-Bar0", "Visible", "REG_DWORD", "1")

...but that's where the usefulness of S&T Keys may end for you because S&T Keys has been designed to be used with a keyboard. In my setup I use no frontend software. I just use Streets & Trips 2007 as is. I use a plain old inexpensive 15 inch desktop LCD monitor mounted in front of me in my truck. A keyboard is attached to the dashboard. It's not something most people here would consider a typical CarPC

While this feature could be easily implemented, I don't have the right to remove a safety warning from someone else's product.

S&T Keys is not password protected. Decompile the *.exe file and feel free to use any of the code you find useful. You may need to modify it to fit your purpose. Feel free to ask me questions if you start getting headaches from the 1500+ lines of AutoIt code

Just like I wouldn't call myself a mechanic only because I fixed a flat tire on my car the other day

Eh, maybe MS will let us into the next version a little more (but I wouldn't count on it!)

Cheers

You aren't removing it - you are automatically acknowledging it on our behalf, after we configure your program to do that. In all honesty, I think that would be safer than causing an extra look at the screen.

If you don't want to do it, could you hint at how - for someone who is less of a programmer than you?

BTW, yes, putting the shortcut to KEYS in Roadrunner does indeed start S&T within RR with the default settings defined in Keys. Now if I can just get RR to pass F5 to your program to do those changes as well! I haven't been our driving with my setup yet, it will be interesting to see if your auto-reroute will work when S&T is inbedded in RR.

Thanks
Kevin

I should install RR to see if I could modify S&T Keys (and AR Keys) to be compatible with RR. But I'm working on a couple of other projects that will keep me busy for at least a couple of weeks. Perhaps then I will explore this idea.

The auto-reroute feature in S&T Keys requires that MS Streets & Trips 2007 (or MS AutoRoute 2007) be in full-screen navigation mode (but this requirement could be removed). This feature is screen resolution dependent. It only works for pre-set screen sizes. So far it has been enabled for the following resolutions: 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 600, 1280 x 768, 1280 x 800, 1280 x 1024, and 1680 x 1050 (that's various laptop screens). I suspect the automatic re-routing feature will not work as is in RR.

In RR, you can use Sendkey to send any keyboard shotcut to any program you like.

So it should be easy then. If you like any of the code in S&T Keys, then just copy & paste it (modify if needed) to RR.
