Short answer: There is no *best* GPS software but some are more popular than others. Some are better for European use while others are better for U.S. use. Popular software for the PC are:
1. Destinator
2. iGuidance
3. Routis
4. Delorme Street Atlas USA
5. CoPilot
6. Microsoft Streets and Trips
7. Microsoft MapPoint
I use streets and trips with RR and I love it. But that is me.

Save yourself the pain
I tried S&T 2007 and just returned it to Microsoft for a refund. At least their Mappoint software can be modded to make it a little more powerful though it's basically the same program.
iGuidance navigator looks decent though voice prompts don't include street names.
Right now I am toying with the idea of ordering CoPilot because it's feature set seems to be the most comprehensive one. Aside from the full-fledged CoPilot 10 Live Laptop, they also have a light version called Navigator which you can get for dirt cheap on ebay.

Streets and Trips is horrible to use while driving... The interface sucks, entering destinations is slow, their is more menu than map on the screen...
I tried several and found iGuidance 3 to be the best by far... CarComp modified ME to get it working; I'm supposed to help rewrite some code to rid us of that nag window but haven't had the time to get back to him. (school work etc)

Obviously you didn't try to integrate S&T. Look here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...28&postcount=2
Download the skin and everything is big buttoned. Also the routing is fast and always accurate. The maps are the best I have seen on a non-GPS unit. Meaning out of all the PC gps software, this looks the best. Standalone units like Garmins look a hell of a lot better, but there is nothing like that on the PC without an emulator.
And for being $30, it is one hell of a deal.
Just because you don't know how to unlock all the features of S&T, don't put it down.
Been successfully using it hassle free for a year now. Drove across the country and into Canada with it, no problem. If we were hungry, we click the binoculars, and then the find button. Voila, food. and if you double click it, it adds it to your route and takes you to said food.

Sure I can help you along with most other people here on these forums. You could ask user "skiman" as well. He just bought Streets and Trips and I explained it all to him. Maybe he retained the info and can tell you his first impressions of it. I don't recall my first impressions but I did a lot of research and compared screenshots, skins, features, and price and I bought the software, and kept it, so I assume I was happy.

Somebody got it working with 2007 I believe. I use 2006. But 2007 has a "full screen mode" which might negate the need for the skin. I have not messed with '07.

Not to hijack...
Not meaning to hijack this thread, but...
2K1Toaster; are you using the GPS that came bundled with S&T 2006?
I ask as I have a lead on a box set and an unsure if I am not better served with an old (9-pin) Delorme Earthmate,
see http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gps/...highlight=2006
Thanks!

USB > DB9 always
And yes I am using the bundled receiver. Worked very well in Ontario.

I figured USB >DB9, thanks for confirming.
$80 CDN from a private seller for the package seems like a fair deal to me; agree?

Well with the ever plummeting USD, you might be able to buy it ebay us, and ship up there. Last time I checked it was close to $0.86 or $0.87 on the dollar.
But yes for the nav and usb gps, it is not a bad deal.

Okay, I have S&T 06, and 07.
Delorme Street Atlas 07, Google Earth,
and I just got Co Pilot Live 10 for Laptop.
Honestly I have to say that CoPilot is the best
by far!!!! I will admit this though, S&T has the best
looking maps, but CoPilot is A LOT more incar friendly
with 3D maps, large icon buttons, great OSK, and
have by far the fastest automatic reroute ever,
just as they claim!!
