Here at Karputer we currently have a new GUI in development with the GPS sided powered by TWIG, a new GPS/Tracking/Location Software by Benefon.

Twig is being released Worldwide and utilises mapping data from Navteq.

Areas to be covered are:

United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany,France, Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, Russia, China, United States and Canada, Australia, New Zealand.

The Ranger UI software will be available for general release in April 07. This initial release version will incorporate full media playback controls and integrated Twig Navigation, notepad features and on-screen keyboard functionality.

Tracking and location services from Benefon between phone and PC platforms are planned for release later in the year.

We also have places open for beta testing. Everyone who takes part in the test will be eligible for a free copy of Ranger and free updates for 24 months.

the gps looks like iGuidance and it doesnt look too touchscreen friendly

The GPS isnt iGuidance but a windows port of Benfons Twig software. It has been designed from the ground up to be used on Car PCs. I can assure you it is touchscreen friendly.

The software will come bundled with the GPS & Frontend.

Of course you can ask

to clear things up over Media Car we never at any point asked Stefan (Coyote) to stop coming to these forums. All we did was license a commercial version for our hardware. After an initial large investment of time and money Stefan disappeared and to this day we have never heard back from him.

It was never down to Karputer as a company that development of Media Car was stopped for members of the forum.

Our New software has been developed by Karputers Software arm based in St-Petersburg, Russia.

A port of TWIG?

This looks very much like MS Streets & Trips/Autoroute but tilted like in Streetdeck?!?

Why not write your own GPS instead using MS stuff like they have? ...Just a thought

This is our own GPS software licensed form a company called Benefon, a mobile phone manufacture. Their Twig software was designed from the ground up for their new handsets. We have ported it over to Windows.

Shawjohn, it is not MS stuff..mind you it is a FE not just a GPS,
and another addition to all the existing Front ends out there is not that bad.

Karputer, we all know what happened back there, and RR is on its way and took its own path, i was just wondering what happened to cayote, nothing bad i hope, people don't disappear just like that unless they get married or something

We dont know what happened with Coyote we also hoped that nothing bad happened to him but after a long time trying to contact him we just had to let it go.

Fair enough about the GPS thing, wasn't meaning to citicise but I supose it sounded that way. The map does indeed look very similar graphically to the MS stuff about these days so I just presumed

What GPS engine does Benefon use? As we all know they won't have written their own from scratch.
