trick atx supply for setup

[font="Franklin Gothic Medium"]hi
this will be my first official post and by no means I really don't llike the term newbie!
The toppic up for discussion is the (tool/toy) that I have made for the purpose of setting up and experimenting with itx boards software ect. In my ventures of car pc greatness I have learned much and have screwed up too, but thats how we learn! I started out with an old dell computer using a regular atx power supply then I hooked up a 400w power inverter into my car. that obviously isn't the best way to go but ya know something, *it friggin worked! Well for a while at least untill the mobo died.
my next project was an itx epia m1200 and I wanted a powersupply that is more suited for the job. m2 looks good to me. which I baught both from mp3 car. Ok so I got a really good start and have supposedly well rounded system components but how do i power it in my house to set it up. So alot of people use 12v 500mah powersupply but I still want to power up otherstuff that my computer *carputer may use, and I really don't want to spend anymore money. My atx supply has multiple voltages and also has protection circuitry, so really why wouldn't I use it. Most people don't know how to search the net for Ideas but I do. And so the point of my blog is revieled!
How to do it without f-ing up my supply! not really that tough though you must be able to solder and apply common sense to electircal components. Controlled canibalization is ok if you have components lying arround that you will never use.
WHAT YOU NEED

Atx female 20 pin connecter
bread board or perf board
various pieces of wire (color coded)
1led
1 330ohm 1/4th w resister
1 10ohm 10w risistor
at least 1 type m barrel female recepticle or any other kind of universal connector that you will use for power out
1 on / off switch any kind you want as long as appropriate.

next you want to try to do this on breadboard if you can just to see if you can get it to work if not well prepare to keep your iron hot!
Important wires you need to know red black grey green. [FONT]
You can add a fan because you installed a 12v power connecter and the 10ohm resistor gets kinda hot but its still not really hot but it is still hot.
let me know what you think about this because it is kinda not perfect. I still use my breadboard version but the picture is my attempt at getting smaller and less complex. it is a work in progress and I'm open to suggestions.
I realize the pc isn't really geared towards using in the house, but if you want to power your carpc in your home without buying additional equipment then maby you should check this out. I also use it to build pcb kits and test with. you can access +- voltages of 3 5 or just 12 and if you screw up the supply just turns off. flip the switch and start over again but try not to mess up! Again though messing up is how we learn

Whether you like it or not, as a new member, you're a newbie.
Now, I could see you being offended by the ternm n00b. That's a whole other ball game. After reading your post, you're certainly not a n00b, just a newbie.

Uhhhh. Nobody uses a 500mah DC power supply to power an M2ATX in the house. Why? The M2ATX will draw far more than half an amp.

Yay! A revealing.
Actually, I'm gonn stop here. I see what you're doing and believe I understand what you want out of this little project.
There's a far easier method to achieve what you want. I outlined it in a FAQ here: http://www.mp3car.com/wiki/index.php...on_a_workbench

Those are legitimate concerns. I can assure you that what I outlined doesn't involve soldering (unless you really feel like it), doesn't screw up the ATX power supply and uses more common components that are likely to be cheaper. Hell, most hardcore computer geeks would have the stuff lying around.
