Only the cold is a problem rain isn't a problem, there would be water inside the car, before it would hit any part of the cpc. The fan of the car gifs planty of airflow, so cooling is plenty. And its very quite in this way.

Glad it inspired someone!

Is that your competion car?

I thought you were using a PCI X-meridian sound card?

Did you get rid of it?

If yes, are you using the onboard sound? I don't see any cards on your board.

Is the scroll fan loud? I've been looking for a quiet fan for the computer myself as most of the small fans I've tried spin too fast (and thus, noisy) to move a suffecient amount of air for cooling.

Hmmm, maybe I'll check your worklog........

Cheers
Just curious.

Nope - it just wasn't going to happen at that time so I pulled it out.

Nope - still planning on using it - be it in the house or otherwise.

Onboard optic.

Very loud...that's why it's turned off for critical listening. While driving though, you can't pick it out, which is fine by me.

For me to make the switch over to all tuning done by the PC in the car I would have to make some MAJOR changes. Having the entire sub-dash repainted being one of them. We sanded down the lower portion of the GTi dash (if you have been in a VW of this model you would immediately see why) and had it repainted in a flat black. The painter told us that if we ever needed to have a piece repainted, he would need to do the whole thing again to make sure the matte finish were uniform across all pieces.

Since the Alpine controller sits up there, it would have to come out, I'd have to probably buy a new center console and start a new. In which case I would move the CD drive to be above the screen and I'd see about putting an 8" wide screen vertically or even a 10" wide screen vertically in that spot and moving the AC controls down to where the alpine is currently.

Then there's the down time and the time spent retuning. It's going to happen, but since we were starting to consider buying a house, I couldn't justify the money we would have to spend to make the switch and the time down from shows.

Now we're putting a PC in the truck and I should be able to test the tuning that way to know EXACTLY how I want to do it in the car.

Maybe you can find one here: http://www.pcsilent.nl/en/Fans.2/25_40mm.34/

In the new position i use a 12 cm fan for the case (low noise 13 dB) and the EKL Xtrude mobile 479 for the processor
http://www.pcsilent.nl/en/CPU_cooler...9256dc2ccfbde2

Is a lot quieter than the Coolermaster i had (the same as on the picture of the mobo of RedGTiVR6)

No pictures of the new position, i always keep the new things hidden until after a meet (and thats april 20)

Nah, I've got a toasted laptop that I'll be trying the centrifugal fans out of it. Doesn't matter how many mini fans I try, they're all too noisy in the trunk. The laptop fan might do the trick though....

That just put my setup to shame. I'm going to rip it out over the long weekend and aim for smething like this. Back to the topic though, i put mine in the trunk. Plenty of space to work with, and i don't have much use for the trunk. One more benifit is the summer heat doesn't cause problems there.

It's been there for over a year & works fine. No problems with overheating even during summer.

In the trunk. I made a case out of a screw and bolt drawer set from Walmart. Barely big enough for the motherboard and PCI cards and allowed me to configure it the way I felt was best to maximize airflow.

For you glove box guys....

Does the fan on the CPU (if you have one) keep it cool enough or do you use other fans or create vents to allow better cooling?

I put my caputer under the passenger seat. There's enought space for a mATX case and the A/C vent down there keeps the system cool in the Houston heat and humidity.
