I found these on the net ages ago and just recently found them on my laptop when cleaning it out. So I thought I would post them up

I have a link to a website somewhere that has ones for USB, Firewire, S-Video etc. I will try and find it.

Your basic relay

Not the greatest example, but here's what the pins are:
when 86 has +12VDC and 85 has -12VDC, then 87 and 30 are connected. 87a and 30 are connected if 86 or 85 do not have any power.

carPC Turn On / Shutdown Controller

Material needed

2x SPDT standard automotive relays - automotive store or electronic store
2x Diode - Radio shack or electronic store
1x Serial port connector - Old serial device (mouse, joystick etc...) or radioshack or electronic store
1x Fuse holder + fuse <- VERY IMPORTANT !!!!! (if power source already fused then you're ok)
10g or 12g wire for providing power to the inverter (bigger is better)
16g to 18g wire for your relay triggers, grounds and 5V connection
Misc. connectors

In the BIOS set your motherboard to turn on after powerloss so the second you feed power to the power supply it will turn on.

Get an old serial port device, rip the connector off of it, take the cover off and solder a wire on PIN 8. If you look very closly the pins will be numbered on the connector. When PIN 8 is not getting 5v, it will initiate the windows shutdown. (credit to Laidback) Refer to the diagram for wiring.

Go into your control panel -> Power Options - Create a generic UPS with these settings (picture bellow this one)

note: some versions of windows xp does not have the UPS tab (ie: windows xp home) - xGROMx

More details and hints:
-The numbers you see on the diagram (87,88,85,30) are the pinout of a standard 12v SPDT relay
-The >| symbol are diodes, they are crucial to making this work.
-You can use your amp's turn on wire to make this work instead of ACC, however some amps may "thump" when the carPC turns on. The real ACC can be found in the head unit harness.
-Some cars turn off the ACC while being started, this may trigger the hibernation. The diagram below will solve this problem

Updated diagram - will only work on ignitions that have a key switch (most cars do). To know if your car has a key switch, leave your door open and put the key in the ignition w/o turning, if you hear a door chime, you have a key switch. It can be found right on the ignition plug itself. This may be a little more advanced for some users, testing with a multimeter is the only way to find the right wire.

This will only trigger hibernation when the key is removed from the ignition

while this may not be of much use to many here, i thought i would post it up anyow to save those who DO need it alot of headache. major props goes out to "way2old" at automotiveforums.com for this btw as he provided me with it.

for those who are curious, a while back i bought an OEM ford amplifier on ebay for my carpc project as 1) our van didnt have one and 2) i didnt feel like paying outrageous prices for an Aftermarket amp and 3) i didnt need any massive power AND 4) it should work perfect as its designed to work with the stock speakers already in there. anywho, seeing as our van didnt originally come with the premium audio system, the main iso connector for the amp is not anywhere to be found and its nowhere to be found online. just recently got in contact with "way2old" after in a thread he mentioned having a book with a whole mess of wiring diagrams. he provided me with the following diagram of said iso connector. the other connector on the amp is for the audio input and did not have a diagram, but it should be a simple case of trial and error. i will document it here later.

to turn on your computer remotely, just ground this pin momentarily. (this is equivalent to pushing the power button) This is most useful for building your own SDC.

(note that this is for an epia 800 motherboard, the exact pin may vary on other motherboards... but you can easily figure out which pin it is with a multimeter: with the computer off, measure the resistance at each of the two power button pins on the header to ground: one will have some resistance, one will be a short... you need to connect to the one that has some resistance)

Schematic Purpose:
This schematic allows you to connect a CF card to an standard IDE port and have it function like a harddrive. This is similar to these adapters.

Extra Notes:
I've included two CF connectors for both a master and a slave card. You could remove one and add a jumper to pin 39 to either select or deselect Master/Slave if you wanted to make one similar to the ones seen for sale.

Probably not too useful because you can pick one of these up for 20 bucks but it's nice to have in case you want to integrate it into your own board design.

Well, I used this to convert my AI-Net interface cable into a set of RCA inputs. I could have bought the adapter cable from Alpine, but the guy on the phone was an a$$hole and, where I live, they also charge about $80 for next-to-nothing. It's a bit of wire and two RCA plugs (:
