I made my cable and hooked it up. I have the comander. The problem I am having is that windows XP Pro SP 2 is finding it to be a serial mouse. How do I make it not be a serial mouse?
Edit: Nevermind.....Got it to work. Thanks Frodo for the program.

for anyone else who has this problem all you need to go is go to start=>settings==>control panel==>Mouse==>Hardware==>Properties then look bottom right and select disable in the drop menu should be good to go. You may need to reboot. (it will not find anything this time and thats how it suspose to be.)

1st the computer found it as a serial mouse.
2nd i soldered the first set of cables wrong (tried to put to cables together). The next batch i made i used one cord and soldered it to the other cable end and and works fine.

I ended up getting it working by messing around with it a bunch and then changing some settings in Road Runner and Frodo's Sat app (specifying com port 1 basically)..

Ok, so for the dumbest of all questions, what do you all do about an actual antenna for your XM Direct? I am going from what most people in this thread have purchased:
i.e. terk xm direct box, possibly premade cable from i-hacked (or make my own.. i may have about 10 ft of that 8pin mini din cable laying around from back in the day.)
Am I missing where the antenna comes into play for the reception of signal from the satellite?
Thanks!
EDIT: I purchased a BMW sharkfin look-alike for my maxima to install my GPS unit into, was thinking about also trying to fit a super mini rear-view cam.. if there is an xm direct antenna i need to purchase, would it fit in one of those sharkfins possibly?

the XMDirect units come with the antenna
it's just a tiny mag mount antenna, smaller than a lot of gps antennas

Perfect, thanks jcd. One more question, and it is one i've wrestled with, and is why its taken me 2 years to finally consider satellite radio...
Do you need sat. radio? is it something you use often? do you use it more than your mp3 collection? bottom line, is it worth it?
Thanks again.

honestly a day hardly goes by that I don't listen to sat radio I have over 6,000 mp3s and I still find myself going back to the radio time and time again. So I would say yes, it's very much worth it.

Lol, that's what I was scared of. Scared I'd pretty much not use what I built this thing for. I agree, sometimes you want to hear a random mix of music you don't have, or it would be good for generally learning about new music. I may give it a go if I can get on this "family" deal thing for like 6.99 a month or some such. I'll have to check closer on the pricing and requirements for that special pricing. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. Also for those of you that have done all of this, did you run the antenna to the roof of your car? if so, how'd you get it through the weatherstripping and stuff around the trunk, backwindow or roof of the car?
thanks

Possibly a silly question, but I didn't see it discussed here. I already have XM radio through a pioneer XM receiver http://www.xmradio.com/catalog/produ...554&type=Tuner
Can I somehow splice into this and connect it to my computer as well so I don't have to buy the XMdirect part?

Here's a pre-built cable for 20.00 shipped. If its already posted here sorry for the re-post. If not I figured it would add to this EXCELLANT article.
