i-hacked doesn't appear to offer the cable anymore (their "cart" feature on the website doesn't work). Is there anywhere else I can buy one of these already made and working?

No difference - just picked one up a few days ago, got a cable from WebDog, and it works like a champ.

I bought two of these cables from Webdog and they work perfectly.
I am using frodo's standalone XM app, this is my first install with XM and it rocks.
Kudos to everyone here for the info

Thanks to everyone for some great info. A couple points I would like to add which may be confusing to the noobies.
1. Even if the cable you are using to hack has the same colors, orange, blue, brown, yellow etc. It doesn't mean that those cables match up to the proper pins on the connector you are leaving on the cable. You must test which wires correspond to which pins - easiest to do with a MM and a continuity test. Simply set your mm to measure continuity and put one probe to a wire color and then probe all the pins on the connecter to find out which pin corresponds with that color.
2. I didn't see it mentioned here, forgive me if I missed it, but there is another connection you need to make after the din/serial cable. That connection is audio. An RCA to mini-stereo adapter will work fine to plug in the XMD to your soundcard.

Alright, I'll ask this question. I made my cable about a month ago, and it powers up fine and what not, but I can't get it to work with Frodoplayer or frodoxm (cept the little program you put in your startup) and I finally got it to work with RR. Now, it plays the stations just fine, except It will never tell me the current song or artist or any of that info. How do I get that to work?

After buildling a cable; has anyone noticed that the apps (any) to control the unit randomly cut off song titles and artist names? (I'm trying to figure out if this is normal behavior or if there's something wrong with the cable)

if you don't have the cable properly grounded or shielded it will cause problems like that.

I suspected as much...I planned to rebuild the cable once I get a decent soldering iron anyway since I made a mess of the cable and didn't have anywhere to connect the shield ground (The shroud is plastic??)
The cutoffs seem somewhat too predictable though...for example, Red Hot Chili Peppers is always 'Red Hot Chili Pe' regardless of the application used; and yes...the colums are expanded far enough to read the entire name.
Fortunately I have an 8' cable with plenty of room to cut off the mess and try again with the proper tools

yeah but I dont think i've ever had any name cutoff at all
as long as you tie the shield of the DB9 to the shield of the cable it should help, you dont really have to connect both ends of the shield.

I stumbled across this thread this morning with no intention of installing XM in my car, but after I read the install guide I decided to go down to Fry's and pick up the unit for $49 with a $30 dollar rebate and the cable was $7.99 and I had the rest of the stuff. XM is having a special with no activation fee so it was just the $12.95 for my first month's service and $30 worth of parts.
Thank you so much for an amazing write up because everything works as advertised through RR. It is great to have radio again!!!!!
