Thanks for the suggestions and info. I see that Radio Shack carries a monster cable that goes from RCA to the 1/8 jack. The price is decent at $8. I'm going to pick on up and see if that doesn't help. If it doesn't clear it up I'll try that filter that you mentioned. Did the filter affect the sound quality at all?

I'm using Rat Shack's cheapest RCA to stereo adapter without any problems. The Monster should work great.

Just an FYI for everyone. I picked up the monster cable RCA cable and all my noise issues went away.

Does anyone know where to get more information about the terk protocall. I am looking to use the terk adapter to manipulate the stereo deck with the computer. Any information will be helpful. Once again I am not looking to connect to the XM unit but the box that it usually plugs into. It would save me a lot of time form doing my own reverse engineering.

I second that!! I'm working on adding a VFD or an LCD to display the XM info.

you can't plug the XMD into the computer while it's running, most systems shut down because of the very high initial draw of the XMD. It always has to be plugged in before you turn it on. Especially if you have a M1 or a M2ATX

ive tried that too. i tried it first. but if i have the XMD unit plugged in and try to start up the computer i see the fan on the motherboard move enough to make about 1/7th of a rotation then it wont do anything until i unplug the unit.

did you purchase or make the cable? Sounds like the power lines are backwards, have you tried reversing them just to see if it works?

no, i didnt try that. i double checked the pins with a multimeter to amke sure they all matched up with the diagram... I also have not tried plugging it in without hooking up the power wires. i guess if it works then it would prove its the power wires and not anything in the serial connection i soldered.

Well any shorts in the serial connection will not prevent the machine from turning on, it will just keep the connection from working. But if you made the cable yourself just double check the pins, it's very easy to get them backwards.

Well what you need to do is be sure that you have the correct line selected in mobile impact setup

also make sure that you have it turned up to about 1/4 to 1/2

also now you have the unit powered up you need to go to the XM site and resend the activation, if you don't it'll never activate and just give you issues. just send the activation and let the radio sit on for about 10 minutes, that should be good enough

also try closing mobile impact and muting the line-in and then opening the program

i got it to work... you were right about the sound not coming in through the line in.

i plugged the xm unit right into my amps and i get sound. but it wont pick it up through the line in even if i try muting it firstor messing with volue or anything...

oh well it works though
