honestly I think it's easier than the USB models in some cases, no drivers, still powered by the machine, can have any antenna you want, etc..

@nl4jy: I've been eye-ing ublox modules for a while too. Which one you plan on purchasing? The TIM-LR or SBR-LS? From what I've read so far those two have DR capability and reasonable prices.
Btw, so that I don't get called a thread hijacker : I've been using Garmin GPS25LP OEM GPS engine for about one year now. Love it, especially the dual serial output. I can use two different navigation software simultaneously on my carputer.

i gotta fully agree with you on this one. also, i don't know if you noticed, but the garmin unit automatically starts searching for satellites as soon as it receives its power input unlike some usb units like the earthmate.
Also jc, got yours working yet? Cause I'd like to know how your receiver reacts while driving 30+ mph under foilage, including bare tree's? Cause I loose lock easily and am waiting for it warm up before i start diagnosing, woundering how others work.

well it's funny you should ask, because I just got done installing it into my carputer, I have not taken it for a drive yet, but this thing is awesome, it has 4 sats locked sitting in my living room.
I'm using the 15L with a 5 volt active larsen mag mount antenna.

ok now i'm really impressed, installed it into the car, turned on the pc and soon as it came up I had 4 sats, then within 10 seconds it had 9 sats which my previous gps was lucky to get 6.
as far as your question goes DaRacerz it works fine even with trees overhead and driving.

Yeah, these look very interesting! Maybe we should start another thread?

I plan to after I'm done researching it. It's not a cheap system once the DR is factored in so I'm really taking my time learning it.

@edikp
i orderd a sbr-ls module but have to wait an other week cause the gyro is in backlog
its not that easy to implement it cause it does not work at rs232 line level so the serial/usb conection has to be added seperatly
from the module feature list it has the best coldstart times i have seen till now and through the programming capabilitys of the module there might be the chance to integrate it with the fm card developed here (rds/tmc)
lets see when i got the module and a lil time to play with in about two weeks
btw i own a dr navi based on cirocomm board but only 11 sat chanels and in bad environment conditions huge time to fix

that is the same one i'm planning to order.. Guess you're one step ahead of me. Gyro in backorder? man, that's bad... Can't wait to hear from you on how you wire it up to the PC. Isn't pins 11-15 going to rs323? It was labelled Serial on the datasheet.
Well, this IS kinda on topic... It is a OEM GPS Module we're talking here.
