@hklomann: Thanks for the diagram. Sure does make it a lot clearer. I plan on purchasing it in the near future then.
From what I read the direction sensor (pin 7) is optional. Is that correct? I'm wondering where would that pin be connected to.

After reading further: seems like the direction input takes only a 1 or 0 input. For instance: 1 for forward and 0 for backward, or vice versa. Could anybody verify this?

if that's the case.. maybe we can wire it to the reverse. Then it knows when we're going backward. Really, someone needs to verify this.. only $230 more to go and I will have one of these puppy.

why donīt you download the datasheet
i paid 229euros incl active antenna and gyro + 54 euros tax
actualy i am looking for env-05g datasheet cause there is no socket on board
so we might find someone to do a lil pcb layout for the max 232 serial (i would like to put an rs232to usb here to power the system)linedrivers the backup batterie and the gyro and the reverse input and the speedpulse

I did download the datasheet.. If you look at the bottom of page four, you'll see the datasheet that I posted... Only problem is... I am not an electrician.. I have no idea what all these things means. So my best bet is to following a smart one, and you my sir... is my smart one.
Yay, just found $10 in my car... only $220 more to go.

Hooking up a max232 is not going to be a problem. There are even versions of the chip that don't require external capacitors -- a single chip solution.

irratic mouse movements, OEM GPS
Well, a little update for everyone who is thinking about Garmin 15l mods. Windows might think that its a serial trackball mouse, which will cause the mouse to move irratically across the screen.
I first installed the GPS mod on a version of nLited windows and I was able to recieve a signal. I since then changed my windows confguration and re-nLited it (for those of you who don't know what nLite is it basically chops useless stuff from windows making it smaller and run less bloated)
ANyhow, one my re-installs the GPS mod was causing my mouse to go nuts, even during setup rendering the machine useless. At first I thought it was an IRQ conflict, but after troubleshooting for hours started thinking of other causes.
DUring this trouble shooting process I figured out that the Garmin has an internal power source which can last up to 21 days so even if you unplug its power it will still send a signal to your system. THat being said and you run into the same problem unplus the input cable instead of the power cable.
Now, be-fuddled as to how to correct this problem I decided to call Garmin... Let me make a recomendation here, don't call them if you enjoy having a low stress level because thier tech support is aweful !!!!
They are aware of this happening and thier solution is to simply unplug the GPS mod and plug it back it after windows has booted. Windows thinks that the gps mod is a serial trackball MOUSE. This is the only peice of information that I got from them that was helpful..
To fix this problem, go to device manager make sure that windows is seeing 2 mouse one should be your real mouse and the other is a driver windows selected for your gps mod. Take the driver "Sermouse.sys" and rename it to sermouse.bak.sys and uninstall the serial mouse in device manager. THen reboot the system with the gps mod plugged back in and this should solve your problem.

Am am just curious if anybody has dealt with a tech support group lately that does't stink?????
In the past two years I think all have been outsourced to India and the level of knowledge is aweful. If they would just put the same database the tech support people are reading from on the internet they could do away with those morans.
Linksys for one is the worst. About 4 years ago when I got my first Linksys device their tech support was GREAT... solved every problem I had quickly and properly. They were located in the US and had real knowledge.... Now it is a bunch or dumbasses in India that just type what you say into a database and read back the anwer to you. Most calls to Linksys lately have resulted in them screwing something else up, which I have to fix... them try to fix the original problem I called about.....
Sorry to divert... but you got me fired up again about crappy tech support....

I had the same problem but took a different approach to fix it: Went to Device Manager and just simply disabled the Trackball mouse.
I had to do this twice since I had two Trackball mice. This was due to the fact that I connected both serial outputs on my Garmin GPS25LV to my PC. One on COM1 and one on COM2.

@intellaworks garmin gps 15
thats usual behavior for serial gps devices
i figured out prices for the gps modules in germany:
GPS 15L-W
1 Stck (Muster) USD 120.00
02 - 09 Stck 92.00/Stck
10 - 49 88.00
GPS 15H-W
1 Stck(Muster) USD 120.00
02 - 09 Stck 98.00/Stck
10 - 49 94.00
prices will be converted to euro on dayly exchange rate
these are the modules including prewired conectors
15H: 8 to 40 Vdc unregulated
15L: 3.3 to 5 Vdc +/- 100 mV ripple
and i would add a short mcx to mcx conection cable (or mcx to fme patchcable most gpscarantenna or tripple antennas here in gy use fme connector)to keep the module location more flecible and not to stress the module conector
intresting article about garmin gps oem module and activ antenna:
http://lists.tapr.org/pipermail/aprs...er/000821.html
and donīt buy a cheaper gps 15 cause it has no waas/egnos and no 1pps data output
@ublox oem sbr-ls intrested
gps modul gyro and antenna arrived yesterday its so tiny (bad image cause of the camera)
Size:71mm x 41mm
Height: 11mm
Weight: 17g
my solution with the serial linedriver problem will be:
will connect both serial ports via a dual serial to usb converter ftdi FT2232C that works fine with serial cmos level 3.3 volts
i chop a cheap convertercable to get it (which i hopefully receive tomorrow)
still searching for a clue how to connect the gyro (can`t shrink it to a cable cause it has to be in the right position upwards to work as rotation sensor)
first i will do a quick and dirty wireup maybe someone likes to construct a pcb daugtherboard to make it a quick connect solution
Holger

Yea this is also a fix I guess but I wanted to be assured that it will never show up again so I just got rid of the driver.
About gramin's tech support this is why I was upset: I called in the AM and asked for Tech support and stated that I had an OEM GPS 15L. I was transferred to someone who wasn't even in tech support then transferred again to some nitwit that said that there is no fix. He told me to just unplug it and replug it in, I explained to him that I'm a systems developer and that the designs for my machines won't allow for that and further more that doesn't make any logical sense. He asked me to hold on and then asked me the same questions he asked me the first minute of the phone convo !!! AND offered the same solution !!!!!!! Are you kidding me ?? At least they pointed me in the right direction and I was able to easily solve it after I knew it wasn't an IRQ conflict...
Here is the kicker though. Me being the nice person I am, called garmin back to tell them that there is actually a solution to this problem... I was transferred twice to people who either were too lazy to pass the info on or wasn't even in that department. On the 3rd transfer I explained why I was calling and she told me she was going to transfer me again.. I told her to wait a second... Explained to her that this is the 3rd time and honestly I could care less about helping Garmin out at this point because its obvious they are so clueless that my knoladge probably wont get passed along anyways...
Anyhow, I'm ****ed that a company can't even provide help for thier own products it's rediculus... I belive this call was to somewhere in Texas, so there are clueless poeple in the US as well as all over.

I had this as well with my first setup, and I solved it in a different way, i built a small delay circuit that caused the gps to only be powered after windows was running, as I now have a carnetix in my new system I will be using the delay on signal to power it on.

@ intellaworks you should add your workaround with renaming the sermouse driver to your writeup thread
