The same problem occurs with my haicom 203E GPS-receiver... just disabled the 'trackball', but it comes back if you plug it in another usb-port, as windows assigns a new com-port and then thinks it's another trackball.
Renaming the driver is a very good solution!

you know what is strange, I was getting the mouse jumping, and I went and enabled the gps to send all sentences(default is only to send like 3 or 4 of them), and to send them at 19200 baud and windows will not detect it as a mouse now.

hmm

I wonder if that would work for me.. ahh well I'm working on my system with the problem already solved.. someone post if this solution works for them.

BTW: working on my system and it boots to a shell in 12.3 seconds (using boot vis) I'm using it with a fast IDE drive tho so it'll slow when i add it to a CF card.. but the effort as worht it !

Why do u need 2 serial?
Also, would you still have the detection problem with windows when you convert rs232 to usb? The main reason why I switch my usb gps to serial gps is every time I got out of sleep, i had to unplug and replug my usb gps mouse in order for windows to understand that gps mouse is a gps mouse instead of a unknown gps device.

If worst comes to worst, i may have to look for pci to serial to give me additional ports to make this works.

I already used com1 for my touchscreen and com2 for my gps...

the usb 2 serial coverter works fine with the 3 volt cmos level serial signal from the ublox module and all navigation software listens on com/virtual com port for their input and i always have free/unused usb onboard conectors the other reason why i don`t attach direct to serial is cause my module shall be usb bus powered and the module might be placed internal or externaly i never had any recognition problems with gpsmodules on usb 2 serial or direct serial except of the well solved ballmouse prob after conecting

that's cool to hear. I'm just concern for my case since I do have that recognition problem when I return from sleep/hibernation. I'll be watching this thread or a new one you created to record your WIP.

I love the Trimble Lassen SK2 module. I built an interface PCB, it's been operating perfectly. Here is a pic (if I could attach it).
