PLEASE HELP ME LIRC ir circuit...

I've been off to RS components, this week, and bought half a dozen each of all the components to build up some remote ir remote control recievers (the simpe kind). I have built them and have run girder,pc remote, and winlirc. Not one of these apps will program up with any of my remote, got a pioneer stering wheel "egg", a sky remote, a hauppauge, a phillips track ball remote for a projector, a sont tv remote and an ipaq running nevo.

I have installed serialwatcher, and this is showning me that the remote are working, but it does not seem to be consistant in the code it recieves, it seems different every time you press the button...

Please HELP ME im quite literally tearing my hair out, i know the circuit is working, i have run it both on a laptop and a desktop, as well as metering the outputs, and voltages, they all check out against the specs on the data sheets for the devices.

Okay, what plugin are you using? You should use Igor Serial Plugin (Not USB one).
In Igor Plugin configuration, change the "Device Priority" to 8 or higher (default is 7).
I think the faster the machine the higher the priority you need to change to.

Hi there, i just picked this up. cheers for the reply. I have tried what you suggested, but i am still unable to get anything out of girder, i have had a little more success using winlirc, but whatever i seem to do, i dont seem to be able to get the same result twice, the codes seem to be different every time.

Any other ideas?

double check your wiring. also, the different IR eyeballs are different qualities. lots of people say radioshack's IR receiver eye are garbage, but mine works great.

another thing, some remote controls don't send consistent signals... you just gotta find a remote that does... this was the tedious part of mine. I did all this for my HTPC at home with a radioshack chameleon remote ... its leet

You are right, some remotes don't send one code for each key. One of my Alpine remote send 3 different code for the key (probably for Tape, Radio, CDC functions). Another Alpine remote (newer) send the same code every time. If you want to use the remote that sent different code, you just have to capture ALL the codes send by that 1 button and put all under one actions.

Well if you built thr IR receiver from the schematic posted in the link below,

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...99&postcount=2

I don't think it will work with the Igor plugin, in the igor plugin under settings if you press the button "about HW" it will show you a schematic of the hardware combatible with this plugin. the recever from the link abouve is totally different. I built the receiver from the link above and not the one in the igor schematic. in order to try to get it to work I downloaded winLirc (the program) and winLIRC (the plugin for girder). However I get the same probelm as you. I can verify that I am receiveng codes with the IR detector by going into raw mode in winLirc, but can't successfuly program one of my remotes, so I'm thinking i might just build the receiver in igor's schematic, its simple too, however, I don't see it using a 7805, so don't know how it regulates the voltage, maybe it doens't need regulation? can anyone answer this?
thanks

I built 2 of those base on the link above and they both work wonder.
But remember, the schematic on the Igor plugin and this are different, but they are basically the same. One use 78L05 to regulate power for the IR sensor, the other use Zener Diode. Anotehr different between the 2 is the one from the above link is a DCD device, the other is not (don't remember which).
In Igor plugin config screen, make sure you select DCD device. And the most important thing is make sure that the plugin is loaded.

Well I just checked the Igor plugin, and unless i'm missing something here or looking in the wrong place I can't find where to define the plugin as a DCD device. ANyways I scratched the idea of using the schmatic from the link I provided and rather build the one in Igor's plugin, and it works PERFECTLY. Igors is NOT a DCD device it is connected through the DSR pin. also another difference with the igor schematic is that the DCD pin has to be tied/terminated to the TxD pin or else it won't work, (the other IR receiver didn't do this, , I think this was also a reason why I couldn't get it to work with the igor plugin). Other than that everything else is the same in the two schematics.. oh I alsmost forgot, in Igors circuit, pin 7 (RTS) gets tied to CTS (pin 8) and Pin 9 (RI) gets tied to pin 5 (GND). and wel hope this helps. I would recommend just building Igors device, its in my opion more of a sure bet than the other one. SOme people successfully got the other one to work, I didn't (couldn't find where to define the igor plugin as DCD) and I also tries using WinLIRC and the WinLIRC girder plugin, but still no go... anyways... hope this helps

Hi all, thanks for the feedback. I got the circuit going (it is the one you linked cdevelasco). I didn't come in here for a while cos i have been batling with it for a couple of days, i found winlirc, and the plugin for girder, and it has all worked perfectly since then.

I also bought a packard bell unit, and its remote for £1 on ebay, and it works with the igor plugin in girder, so my quest is over. however, i have a pretty cool remote totry out and as i have bought all of the bits already, i might have a go at the circuit from the igor plugin, will report back when i have sorted it.

Many thanks for all of the help and posts.

Chris
