Awww and I was hoping someone had it finished already. I've been "working" on this for the past year+ but I can't get the time to actually start and see it through. I had a relay controller working nicely with Cypress's EZ-USB FX chips but I can't solder SMD to produce em and the dev board is toast.

Maybe this will provide some motivation...I've got an fairly nice assortment of the new USB pics lying around and I got the ICD2 clone working not too long ago....

What would you be willing to pay for a USB relay controller? I figure a price could even be broken down to $x/per each relay on board since they'd be made to order.

I've tried to update my design keeping in mind your suggestions. I've thickened all the traces where I could, and managed to get it down to a one layer board, with just a few jumpers. And I also got it to print to PDF too. so with a little playing around in photoshop, you can print it to your transpareny film.

I have some suggestions for you board lay out. Try to have all your connectors along one edge that way it will be easier to integrate into a case. I would put the power and usb on one side and the relay connects on the other. I would also look into adding the relay right to the board, that way you can add the protection diodes(for coil feedback protection). You could also look into using SMT parts, that way you have less holes to drill when you make your own circuit board, SMT is not hard to work with just buy a good set of tweezers and you are golden.

I have a board layed out based on a newer PIC18F252. Yes, not the NEWEST, but newer than any 16C part.

Could you put a file in this thread with the assembly files you used for your relay controller? I'd really appreciate that :-)

All said and done, it's gonna cost me about $20, if I can make the PCBs myself.

Based on some of your posts I was unsure whether or not you were aware you can print/create your own PCBS, so just in case I thought I would post a link to how to make 'em.

Sorry to bump this post, but I am really eager for the source code used for this project. I found the PIC16C71 sources on archive.org, but am still looking for the code used in the "USB->serial" chip, does anyone have that code, and would you plase post it for me?
