voltage to pioneer faceplate

I was hoping someone could help me with finding out how many volts is sent to the detatchable faceplate of a pioneer h/u (preferably the flip out screen models)

I am going to be tearing one apart and hardwiring it but i dont have the main unit to take the readings from.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well your head unit might be different, but according to this schematic it looks like it's more complex than a single input power signal. I'm guessing most pioneers use a similar system control chip and similar silicon in the faceplate as they all have the same basic architecture, but different dsp's, etc...

Look at pages 14-15 for a broad overview of the entire system. The keyboard unit (faceplate) detailed schematic is on pages 24-25. There is a main power source (SWVDD), illumination power source (ILM+B), and OEL power source (OELB).

Problem is that the schematics don't specify what the values should be, it's coded into the system control chip PD5560A.

SWVDD power is regulated through transistors Q801 and Q802 off of pin 34 of the system chip.

OEL power is regulated through transistors Q803 and Q804 off pin 91.

Illumination power is regulated through transistors Q806 and Q807 off pin 58.

Hope this helps get you started.

How are you going to use the faceplate without the main unit anyway? Sounds interesting.

Unless I misunderstod and you just don't have the unit *at this moment*

i'm going to hack it apart and wire the buttons to a keyboard emulator. i wont use any of the other hardware associated with it besides the led's and the buttons..

i want to know the power requirements of the unit so i can light it up.

i'm guessing 5v but i'll probably try 3v first

wow, i totally missed this post. i'm not sure if it just didnt show up or what. thanks for all the info. i may have gotten over my head but if i screw up i can just use new led's and put micro switches behind the faceplate's buttons.

thanks for the awesome link too

FYI: The OEL power is a lot of AC volts.
