Someone stole your car? Try this on for size...
I thought about this on my walk to work this morning, I was baked so it may be flawed but lets see...
A friend of mine had his car stolen a little bit before he was about to put a carputer in his car. So i thought this up, a little different than another thread I saw, but same idea...
So you buy a prepaid cell phone, with a camera and put it somewhere inside the car (removable, docking station? but hidden?) that points at the driver seat. And if possible get it to communicate with your carputer so that when you start the car it takes a photo and emails it to you.
So it costs $ to do this, and a prepaid will keep you juiced for a bit if only you use it to take and send photos. But another friend of mine had an alarm in his car that would stop the engine dead 60s after it was started if you didnt turn his defrost button on and off. I knew you could attach these feature to any button, that was just chosen.
So for the phone, maybe hook up some kind of relay or phidget to always do this photo/email action if the button you hook up isnt pressed before you start the car. So someone not knowing this, would be a car theif and you have a positive ID and time in your inbox.
Could this work somehow...?

Back to the topic, I really think this is a good idea. Saves you from having to be within WiFi range to send a photo of the theif driving your car. Just pay the 5 cents and BAM you got time and photo of your car theft.
