cut AC transformer off USB Hub power to connect DC?

How could I power a USB hub off DC PSU?

What if I cut the AC transformer off the cable? Could I then just wire the hub straight to my 5V line off the molex?

I don't want to put an inverter in my car and would probably need more power than an unpowered hub would provide...

That would work. Just tap into the molex.
