Thumbs up USB DAB Setup (Not Wavefinder) for sub £100

This project sounds promising but in the mean time I might have an alternative.

Well after blowing up one Wavefinder and having the other blow itself up I finally gave up on them.

I have found an alternative USB DAB radio called the Trinloc MP3 Recorder for just £99.

I have one now and can report good sound qaulity and software and drivers that work on XP SP2 Couple this radio with a Blaupunkt Autofun DAB car aerial with amplifier and thats a working mobile DAB solution.

Also remember to get the SMA to BNC converter to make connecting the Blaupunkt aerial easier, however you will need to fit the BNC connector supplied with the converter to the aerials coxial. (Not difficult)

Aerial and DAB radio available from the following links:
Trinloc USB DAB Radio
Blaupunky Car Aerial with amplifier
SMA to BNC Converter (See bottom of page)

A 3v Voltage regulator capable of 3 Amps load is required to power the USB Radio. I found this voltage regulator that will fit the bill, it is variable voltage so remember to set the voltage to 3 volts first or you will fry your radio.
Variable Voltage Voltage Regulator 3 Amp load.

Now I just need some plugins to get it working with the best Carputer front ends. Apparently DABBar will support the Trinloc next release.

Hope this helps some of the other Brits on the forum, and I'll let you know how well it works if digitalWW ever send me my LCD.

Also if things look promising I could help out on software development.

Not exclusively looking at anything, we've been contacting tons of suppliers PC/not PC.

Have you any experience of how well it can maintain a signal while the vehicle is moving?

StevieG, if DigitalWW had sent my LCD then I would have , as soon as I get an LCD i'll report on the ability to maintain a lock.

The Blau Punkt aerial is tiny and yet it out performs a full di pole DAB aerial, so I'm hopeful for good locks.

Evo what about running it direct from the PSU on the 3v line? Sounds interesting for those of us in the UK. Let us know if it works.

Hi guys,

have we had any movement on this?
I'm very interested in installing DAB with my project. The Trinloc seems a good option, are there any front ends that the software could be integrated into?

after many months of using my d-link usb fm radio, and finding the reception to be absolutely CR*P, i need a new solution. DAB would be better, so if anything is happening here then let me know!

On a serious note I think streaming radio will be more reliable... and there are plenty of unlimited data packages out there...
