Opus atx power (on off) like this?

Noone seemed to know what I was on about in the power forum, perhaps the posters here can understand this

Will adding a reboot switch (like ive shown) to the existing atx connection between opus and mobo cause any problems to the opus or the mobo?

Basicly its just breaking and dropping the atx pwr positive to the negative to get the normal power off/on switch working, like you would get on a normal pc.

I dont want to chance it without asking and wondered if anyone else has gone a similar route. Adding a seperate reset switch to the RST header is 'nearly' the answer but if I can tie into the proper atx PWR on/off then obviously thats more useful.

A double pole switch would definately work, but, im using an automotive rocker switch that I already have in the car and its only a single pole so im wondering if its going to work without causing problems.

All i did was splice 2 wires into the power switch wires running from the Opus to the motherboard and hooked those into a momentary switch. I have had no problems and it works perfectly.

but thats just shorting the two together

- you mean you dont even break the + before making a short? And that doesnt give the opus any issues?

I guess if that works then my way would be even safer

The switch you've shown will not do anything. The ATX power connection is not a constant-on signal. When the power button on the PC is pressed, it momentarily shorts the ATX power connectors. This tells the motherboard to turn on.

Why don't you use the existing reboot switch on the mobo ?? Then you could add a switch like the one posted some posts above

As for tapping the RST, yes it would be simple, I want to use my switch whatever I do, its part of the car but doing something I can totally live without- keeps the OEM look that way (stealth instal). However i want the switch to work like a desktop PC.... 5 second hold down kills it, even when locked up-a brief touch starts it, and if I do it though that switch, I dont have to play tricks on the opus startup controller if its already on but when my ignition was not on, id have to use the valet switch -yellow line- and cut all power, then turn the car on to restart- at a show or parked it would be simpler to use the ATX PWR- as long as i can hook it up like that.

Just trying to make sure I dont blow anything out on the opus by dropping the + ATX PWR to the negative to generate a reboot (or on if it was already off)

just pull a parallel of the atx power man.... ur making it too complicated...

just pull a parallel off the power switch from the opus, then when u short that for less than 4 seconds it will boot up/down, if you hold it for 5 secs it will hard off...

bypasses the opus... basically a Y connection 1 switch 1 opus, going to 1 mobo connection
