Its not RDS, hes says this will be availabe at the start of 2006. I am very interested in this, and also writing some software to enable some frontends to use it.
I have phoned the UK company up.. answer phone, will update when he gets back.
cheers

It looks like they have a supplier less than 10km from my home.. I'm gonna call them up and see if I can't swing by to pick one up.

Uops!! Sorry. I've been a little bit busy to answer.
Erm, I live in Spain, and I got it from a superstore called "El corte Ingles", very common here.
It cost me about 30 € (US$40), but it was some months ago.

I have a question to the TS: What did you get for these $5??? I asked the reseller in Holland about this unit. At my job we have good contacts with this reseller, we work with other silab products. They told me the USB-FM-unit will cost €50, so that's a lot more than the price you mentioned.

I suspect this is still vapor ware.
I made a real effort today to purchase one for testing and to get availablity for 50pcs.
Avnet is listed as my distributor for Southern California. I called them and was frustrated they wouldn't even start talking to me until they had all my contact information so they can spam me with unrelated products for ever.
After giving them all my contact info the sales person tells me that there is no part AN264 and there is nothing matching a discription of USB FM tuner from Silicon Labs. I thank him for taking 30 mintues of my time to tell me the PN doesn't exist in their system and call Silicon Labs.
I explain what I'm looking for to the switch board operator and she forwards me into someones voicemail. I left a message and am waiting for someone to call me back although I won't be holding my breath.

The Dutch distributor of SiLabs told me it will be available in the first Q of 2006. He knew exactly where I was talking about, so I don't think it's real vaporware. He even gave me pricing (as I posted above).

Ok I take back the vapor ware comment. This is real.
I called SI and it turns out AVNET hadn't placed an order for this product yet. I worked with the buyer at AVNET and they are placing and order with a 3 week ARO.
Still no pricing info from AVNET

Told you!
I am really curious what the price will be for you. I have to pay €50 for 1 and €30 for 5. In compare to the price the TS mentioned I find that strange...
