XM Direct + Serial = Mouse?

Ok, this appears to be a common problem but none of the "fixes" I found while searching here seem to help me. Basically my XM Direct is hooked to my com1 serial port. When the system boots it sees it as a "microsoft serial mouse" and automatically instals the driver for this thus messing up the XM communication. So if I go into the device manager and uninstall the mouse the XM works perfect, until I reboot of course and go through the cycle again.

Through searching I found most people say they just "disabled" it and it was fine after that. Well I tried disabling the serial mouse in the device manager and the XM still didn't work. So I tried disabling the serial port but of course that didn't work. Is there a generic driver I can install for the XM Direct that will stop XP from trying to install it automatically at boot and keep the XM Direct happy?

Gotta love it when people find the answer to their problem , and never post their findings so other poor people dont have the answer.

Do a search on here for "GPS serial mouse". There are a couple of registry keys that have to change. It a bug with Windows XP, where the OS thinks that the serial device has to be a mouse.

The fix works, it fixed my serial gps problem.

Thanks! -- I have gone inot device manager and disabled the serial mouse for now... If that doesnt work I'll have to resort to the regedit. Sure hope my notes are good, cuz if I ever have to try to get this RR thing working again, I may totally loose my cool!
