TomG, i understnad what you mean. However, like i stated before, its old, and we can do better, for cheaper. I mean, if you want it, by all mean,s but I personally want VGA resolution MINIMUM, if not 800x600. I won't get that from nitemax, but i can get VGA. If we cna upgrade it somehow, that woudl be an amazing find, just liek the nitemaxes, since they are so easily manipulated, esp thanks to mark's continued help, they were well worth it.

The best solution would be a surplus LCD that's cheap because the people selling it have no controllers! (We do...)

Few things to throw in the works
I have been reading your thread for a little while now and v.interested in your progress. After reading up on here for a while I started to look at DIY projector forums to get more ideas.
First of all I would like a higher res display I found one screen that is 2.2" and is full vga res mmm nice is made by casio but i can't find a place to purchase. I presume they use these screens on thier digi cams etc so maybe able 2 source a broken one. Obviously the smaller the screen the better but up to about 4" may still be alright and if they are available at higher resolutions then could be a bonus. I am still searching for more screen options if anyone else finds small screen max 4-5" min res 640X480(vga) pref 800x600(svga) could they plz post here.
Second I was giving thought to the light source to shine through the LCD has anyone got any good ideas?? I saw someone mention 12v holgen bulb how bright, expensive, and hot do these bulbs get. Do they require a ballast or anything else? A lot of members of the DIY projector forums have been having success with leds I was thinking thses would be perfect for application as are low power usage and do not produce as much heat as light bulbs. This is just a post to get some feedback from you guys excellent ideas so far but i think we can learn from others and maybe seek advice from people that have been experimenting with things like this for years, gonna have a chat with moderator to see if he has any ideas or equipment that could help us.
The HUD idea as a concept could be revolutionary to in car entertainment, I can think of lots of different ways to adapt this for various peoples use, for instance over head mounting rear mounting dash mounting. This has uses for a HUD and maybe a massive screen in the back of your car for passengers as well??
So as a summary needed
small high res screen
lighting solution led or halogen??
also as a P.S a good quality lens with low FS so screen output is not 2 big i have been told triplet lens is best for projection systems

Now only if that little program could also mirror the displayed image...! I signed on to the forum in the company that made it and placed a request. I many people from here ask for it they might do it in reasonable time.
Here is the link:

all PDA's I have looked at have a transflective screen I thought you need a transmissive type for use with projectrors? would this make any difference.
Was also thinking it might be hard to remove all the bits from the back of PDA so we could add a brighter backlight, but it is cool idea this would be an easy way to get a vga screen. Because although we know they exsist I cant find a place to purchase, they are designed for companies to buy in bulk to put inside equipment. We may be able to get some testers from manufaturers if we pretend to be a business.
Is there a way to use the PDA as a virtual monitor for carpc through wireless lan rather than usb?

actually this program can do it over wireless LAN. Active Sync 3.8 supports that.
Also our original idea is not to project the image since the HUD need minimal light to work we just reflect it on the windshield. Read the beginning of the thread for more info.
I have been wondering if I can just use the screen from the pda. If it uses some standard system like LVDS/TTL we could definitely do it but I could not find any info on that. I have an old Casio cassiopeia E125.
