DOn't worry, i hada good camera and it ouldn't capture the holo image.
With the tint on i get no doubble image at all cause im using a Plastic type mirror the image doesn't have to go through the glass to the back to reflect so there is no doubble image just a clear projected image.
Altho when i tried using a normal mirror i didn't get a doubble image either if i remember correctly.

the double image we get is of the windsheld, that's why none of us consider the project done yet. It might be the tint though, interesting...
you're just using simple mirror tint, right, or another type?

You are right the reason you get a doubble image is cause the reflection is off the inside of the glass and also the outside of the glass which creates a doubble image.

Actually it's a bit embrassing but i got the mirror off a bathroom mat lol
Had a bathroom mat which had a bendable plastic mirror on the mat with the words nice underwear lol
Using tint on the windshield will stop the doubble effect and the mirror will flip the image the right way around before it reflects onto the windshield.
I was actually working with a forum member here ages ago about doing a GPS HUD for his motorbike helmet buy using a PDA attached onto the bike and a wireless connection for the audio and video which projected the image onto the visor.
I've done alot of mods/projects which have used reflection and lens etc so i have the basic's down of making HUD's
I have asked the guy who makes the software for the PDA to flip the image and he said he will put it in a future version so it means i won't need a mirror at all
The cars with builtin HUD's have their windshield tinted (u know how stock tint is u don't really notice it) so thats how they get over the doubble image on the stock cars.

they have a flim built in by dupont with pevents the doubl image sanwiched between the glass. Something you can try is a screen flipper software. Thy were commonly used in prank software, but you can reverse engineer them t get teh desired effect. That's what i did initally. My firend is supposed to b workin on the coding when i get the LCD ready as there is a chance i can flip it mechancially/lectrially instead of using software
the tint that you are using to projet onto your windshild, not the mirror, is what i' curious about It seems clear, or is there no tint and your'e projecting straight onto the windshield? If so, then i need to check out that mirror of yours!

To be honest only time i really use the nav is at night in the day its to work and on the weekends its party time at night so i haven't actually tried it.
but i would think that it is bright enough cause you would be seeing the reflection and the PDA is made to use the sunlight to make it readable in the day so i don't think there is any problems
I'll check it out for u tomorrow just gotta find that damn piece of tint i threw away.

t wuldn't be daylght readable. The PDA's screen is transflective, not ultabright. That property allows it to be read in sunlight. It needs to be MUCH brighter.

Actually, the solution is much simpler than that. And yes, i did say solution.
THe new sentra came with tinted windows. I was looking at the window while driving and realized that i could clearly see my hand. Remembering what NiN said, i checked the untinted celica for a double image. Tint is all you need. Its not the clearest for small small text, but we will need to enlarge, and therefor project the image onto the tint, no matter the LCD size. NiN wa right. THing is you can legally tint your windshied. I'm wondering if it will work ofr evne 5% tint. I can't wait for my next car...now i really want to do this. A 30% tint all around is sounding like an awesome idea, no matter the vechicle....
THANK YOU NiN!!

No problem always glad to help looks like its working well for you.
On my screen i can read the text quite easily altho it be abit small but then again i have a vga screen.
Even a 5% tint should do the job it is illegal to tint the front windshielf down here but putting on a tint thats like not even noticeable just for the uv protection should make the image show up evenly and legal
You can go to a tint place and ask them what tint u can put on the windshield then ask them for a sample piece it's what i did to get free tint it was stock tint and works well

it's okay to have a strip, but not the whole windshield, i believe it's everywhere in U.S.
my car is 5% in the bacl, and 15% all around, and i have trouble seeing driving a nights, i wouldn't recommend tinting windshield below 50%, but strip is fine

Any pics of anything? What if you just used a small piece of tint on the location of where you planned on projecting the screen? You would not have to cover the whole windshield of course.
