Well this is probably a long shot, but is there a way to possibly modify or create something like this but for car use?:

Maybe take apart a small LCD screen and rip out the backlight so that it is see though? That probably would not work (i dont know much about LCD screens) but its just an idea im tossing out...

Hey sharkbite. That would work okay for the day time, but have you ever seen an lcd with a busted backlight? there's not much visible. At night, it would be shot.
When you get that baja, give me a shout out

if you could get something like that that in different color, modfy the circuit board into serial, the only thing you will be able to project is maybe song titles, but no the original idea of this thread

toys arrived
well the size is just perfect haven't seen anything like it,
cons, projected image is not that bright, you can hardly see the image in the light room, if prjected with the screen fore than 36 inch diameter, however for HUD the throw distance is short, therefore the lightloss is minimum, and the image is great, i have not tried it on glass yet though, i will post pics of that later,
i tried it in the bathroom, works like a charm, and and mildly dark room as well
will post the rest of projection pics shortly
Yev

Ok, waiting for your review! I hope you have plenty of room inside your dashboard to fit it...

i had a lovely post a few hours ago that got lost that would have explained a few thigs. here's the condesned version
Yev, you need to recreate a half silver mirror on your windshield to get this done right. Hence the tint. do that and 250 will be enough. 450 is optimum. projectors aren't very visible during the day.
When you get tired of playing with the projector, i'll buy one off you. lol. Where did you get those pics though. remember you color scheme for viewing things behind the window. bright colors for what you want to see. Black for what you don't need to see
Lost, IG3 is awesome for that too lol. Esp projected on your windshield lol
I still am not allowed to drive. Damn it. Still ntot work done. Need to talk to motorcity so i can get an LVDS cable though and power up a few goodies

i don't remember i googled them,
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...3DIKG%26sa%3DN
i will be saving 1 for you then, i tested on the window, like you said one mirror tint film is a must, the projection just goes straight through the window.
my car is in the shop right now, so i will report with further information, other than that that thing is fun
Yev

Yeah i was just about to post my findings on the tint. My tint is just regular tint, nothing mirrored. Mirrored will yeild the best results, but may be distracting in the car from unwanted reflections.
First and foremost:
Christ, if i had a car and was allowed to drive, this damn thing would be done by now...
You can see the image EXTREMELY clearly at night. Streetlights don't bother it unless REALLY REALLY bright, but on average, its still very readable.
Zooming out to 500ft on IG3 in 3D view 1/2 is HOT. It overlays the visible road as far as you can see it and gives you everything.
Nighttime mode, 100% the time, is a must.
I'll check it out in day time.
You WILL need atleast an xtra-brite screen or soemthgn with a powerful CCFL tube for daytime use. For noight, a PPC on low setting will be enough. This is one time where old technology is the best as trasnflective is not needed here.
You will need a large LCD screen for best results
*************************
We still have two more major things to do.
1) Flip image on the y axis. This way the reflection is viewed in the correct orientation. I still have to find a software program to do this. This shouldn't be a problem because we don't need hardware acceleration for this simple screen...unless you want crazy stuff to distract you on the road.
2) Focus to be 20-50ft ahead of you. I still haven't solved that one. right now, to see the screen, the focus is the distance of the LCD away from the windshield + the distance the windshield is away from your eyes, as it is a direct reflection. This is not good. I know through lenses we can change the distance, but then that makes this project really really hard. This is where QUANTUM should stand up and give us his solution...right quantum? quantum??
