That is exactly what I do and it doesn't seem to work for me
I Attach the images and copy their address, I click the insert image button and paste the address (making sure not to include the http:// twice) and it comes up as a link!
Any way thanks for trying Genesis! I'll figure it out. When you edited my post did add the pictures from scratch? were the [ img ] [/img] missing? I edited the post to make sure they are there and they do appear to be there but is still doesn't work.
Back to the subject, has anybody seen from up close the BMW hud? I did some searching but I found nothing on how its built.
My idea was that if info come from Ibus to the hud them there is a chance we could fake an ibus? and use the unit by itself? Of course something tells me that the unit it self will cost an arm and a leg at least

I also went a similar route. I used the cover off of two small radio shack project enclosures and just screwed them together. Left a small 1/4" gap, but I just used tape to cover it. The wires hanging down are for auto-iris lenses. The whole for the lens was made wth a hole saw.
I attached a small L-bracket I made out of flat ABS. I just mounted it in a vice and blow torched it at the vice edge until it folded over. I screwed this to the camera and it slips up under the headliner instead of the glass. Almost invisible from the outside.

ok, i am seriously confused!
what does mounting a camera to look forward has to do with the whole HUD idea??? I thought i read the whole thread, but i guess i lost you somewhere .
At first i was under impression that the lense'ed box will be kind of like a projector of the image onto the windshield - but this is certainly not what you guys are trying to accomplish
Thanks
Alex

Well, for night vision (or rather IR nitevision, which is different than thermal that comes with caddys), you need a forward facing camera. That's the easy part and what these pics are of.
The second part is projecting an image properly on the windshield. This is the hard part.

The idea is that you will have a hud that displays an image from a night vision camera. Then you have a live image of the road in front of you and you will be able to see in the dark!! Of course as a side bonus the hud can display any thing from the pc too!

^^ ah i see
hm, maybe you folks should concentrate on the hardest part first (HUD) as the forward camera would be pretty useless without HUD to display it, no?
as for me, i'd only like to display some numbers on the HUD (like speed, rpm, etc)

My IR camera will display the image on my 8.4" touchscreen as well. That will do untill we will find a good working HUD solution.

Well I think that most of the people in this thread that have been around from the beginning did the camera part some time ago exactly because it was pretty straight forward.
Also, as you might noticed in the threads title, this project was inspired by the NiteMax camera, which is a great piece of equipment and so this thread developed in parallel with the work done on the camera in this thread.
The discussion came up again a couple of posts before by my trying to sum my experience of my camera setup to murug who was just installing his.
Any way this things are in the beginning of this thread and you should at least browse through it since I understand it is kind of large to read.
It other news, I was playing today with the polarizer film which during the day, that I had a chance to test, it does improve that picture quality. No reflection from that dash and less washed out colors. I have no idea what will happen at night. I am worried if it will be too dark. I will post some pictures when I get the chance to take any
BTW has any one extended the NiteMax's ribbon cable on the LCD? I want to start testing some stuff in the car but that controler is a bit annoying in terms of positioning the LCD.

Yev research angles of incidence. If you do it right no light will exit the vehicle. I've done it. Pics are somewhere in the front of the thead.

Hello
I'm new to this forum, I'm glad I found you guys though , I'm working on a HUD myself but I'm using it for my airplane. I went to the link that had the HUD glass on it, but they don't seem to have anymore. Do we have another source for that? polarization was an excellent idea, I was thinking along those lines myself, Now that I see it work seems like the way to go.
Oh yes! BTW, look at this. looks promising. I will be contacting them Monday morning. I'll let you know how much one of these little gems is going to cost.

Has anyone found a feasible way of creating this HUD without having an enormous projector on your dash or without using a micro-display or CRT?
It seems to me, that if you use a standard LCD and a lens, the total projector size is going to get very large, and the projected display is going to be magnified and not look very nice.
