I have completed my fiber glass carputer case so i started the next phase. That was to relocate my faceplate from the main HU. My plan was to place the HU under the back seat. The faceplate is going in a tray up front. Anyways, I tore apart the case on the HU and soldered the wires (2 cat 5 cables)to the pinouts. All looks good so I put everything back and hot glue the wires to the HU where they come out. Next step is to do the same thing on the faceplate. Well, long story short im not sure if my soldered was **** poor or if i had the wrong wire hooked up somewhere. When i turned it on i head what sounded like a steak on the grill.
So yea im ****ed, Brand new, right out of the box unit down the drain.
Any tips or tricks?
Ya, be more carefull

Did you see the magic smoke come out?
Sorry to hear that man.
The best thing is to map out, draw out what needs to be done. Pin by pin, color by color, and check it 10 times becfore you apply power. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to power something up, and just as a last ditch effort, check the wiring and find something wrong.
Also, ar you sure you connected postiive and negative of the unit correctly, cause that could cause the same problem.
Also, if you can find the appropriate connectors, that would make things less likely to fry because of solder bridges or other soldering issues.
