AIVMS handles relay operations quite well. You can control it from a touch screen :

or by voice command, or by a Pocket PC:

Thats actually a recorded button press sequence for controlling a home automation system with a WiFi connected PPC, but you get the idea..

Being able to control relay's simply by calling the system using a phone or cell phone is pretty nice too. I mean seriously, if your friends are impressed by something simple like relay operation from a touch screen, calling your car with your cell phone and rolling the windows up should cause a few coronaries.

I guess you could even remove 4 of the relays of the original borad and use them on the secondairy board and wire the inputs of the second bord directly to the first board. That way you eliminate relays controlling other relays. If you can tell me what kind of relay card you have I could probably figure out how to connect them together.

I will look into the resistor values and the transistor types this weekend. and I hope I can post a reworked schematic by sunday. Keep in mind that I'm not 100% sure it will work. It should work in theory and I think it will work in practice.

Nice to know that at some of you guys apreceates this idea and are actually thinking of using it. The schematic and board layouts will be freely available to anyone who wants them.

Yes well I'm working on that one, but just getting the new chip to program and perform a hello world test is still about a week away............

Biggest setback is I forgot to order new crystals, I have 4mhz, I need 20mhz...

<edit>

Decided on the board design for initial testing.

If no image above its here...

Lots of led's for status and errors, usb socket for pc comms, simple 232 on a header for the phone, relay outputs for control of car features, watch this space.
