do a lot of people use the serial relays AND the factory equipment for the same devices? like for head lights .. would it be a problem having two head light controls [the relay and stock]?

I plan on using both. I don't always have my computer on, so having the factory switches diabled would be a bad idea.

For the one I'm trying to finish, I'm thinking an off-board remote would be a nice idea too. That way, I could always control the relay board, even if I don't have the computer on.

thats good! real good, you COULD then get rid of factory equipment [if you wanted] i like the look of factory, but i was thinking of doing that as well, of course i didnt get a board that had inputs, but hey live and learn ..

I'll use both.
It also depend on how headlights are wire on OEM, but most of them are wire in such that a switch (-ve)(on the sterring or wherever) switch the relay which turn on the headlights.

Phidgetsusa.com has a relay board that is controlled with the USB port. Their API for all of their stuff lets you program it in VB.
