Question BMW E36 : OBD 1 - Diagnostic Tool, anyone speaks German ?

Hi All,

When doing some 'research' aka googling I stumbled on this :
http://fileshare.eshop.bg/download.php?fileid=3721

At the first glance it looks like a DIY to construct a
Diagnose / Odometer reset interface for the non-OBD 2
version of the E-36 but it is in German :-(

Is there anyone that speaks the language that could provide
a translation to English so that we can 'examine' this further?

I'm especially wondering if it only can reset the data for the
odometer or if it can read out mere data from the ECU, and
whether that data could be put to use ....

The pixels of my 1994 320i (E36) Check control (aka 11 button
OBD) are dying so it would be very nice if I could lose the
entire thing and use the lilliput to display the data.

Sincerely,
Jurgen
very nice if I could lose the

Are you sure the Check Control isn't just a bulb blown. they are easily replaced?

Don't think you can display the same data as it displays easily on a computer, there are lots of things connected to it.

Jurgen - sounds German, but you can't translate the German to English?

Here is my best effort.

Bear in mind you will then need some software to understand what is being sent.

Hey Jpuype,

Maybe I can help you. I don't know much about cars, but I can try myself (if you already didn't translate it).

Greetings

Your guess is correct. It's an E36 odometer controller via the OBD interface

Enforcer's tranlation seems to be quite OK.

Hi all,

The software appears to only allow the changing of the odometer. The hardware may well allow for other information to be read, but without the serial commands to do so, it would be an uphill battle.

I did locate the software used with this hardware, but I am not posting the link because, as noted in the German language document, changing the odometer is illegal. If you really need the software, it can be found on the same site as the schematic.
