Using the wiimote to control a front end or what have you probably wouldn't be of much value. The touchscreen is already a pretty evolved interface.
What would be cool however is using the wiimote as an Inertial Reference System (IRS). One would be hard pressed to find a 3 axis accelerometer broadcasting info over bluetooth for less then the price of a wiimote. The accuracy isn't the best, 10% of error according to
http://wiibrew.org/index.php?title=Wiimote, but it should still have some applications.
About what one would actually do with the IRS like capability is still a bit fuzzy. XYZ position history of the vehicle? yaw roll and pitch sensing? compensating for limited GPS accuracy? Providing backup for when there isn't a good GPS signal? Crash sensor?
As you can see there should be lots of neat stuff that can be done with it. For example if you flip your vehicle the wiimote can tell your carpc which will flip the image on your touchscreen allowing you to comfortably browse your MP3s while waiting for the jaws of life...
Hmm, guess this is my first post here although Ive been lurking for about a week. I plan on taking all of the really sweet ideas floating around on this board and integrating them into my soon to be 'new' white 81 Caddilac Sedan Deville. Many pics will follow when that gets rolling, until then thanks for the inspiration!
