Are you using just the OEM bus to talk to the HD Radio device?

It's sort of neither here nor there, but RDS/RBDS data only relates to analog stations. Once HD is acquired, that goes away in favor of the HD data which is called something else. Station information (SIS) is the call sign and station specific details like slogan, etc. PSD, or program data, refers to the song info like artist, title, genre, etc.

It's nice to see you're all interested in HD Radio. I'd be happy to answer questions you may have about it (just not protocol specifics). There's a lot of cool new features being developed (like DVR functionality which we showed at CES this year) and there are many new products coming out which would suit the carPC market much better (mainly USB devices).

I knew that once a BMW unit came out we would be able to use it on a computer since the IBUS adapter can control any BMW device. What we did was keep the BMW data bus but remove the BMW I believe the actyual conversion goes like this:
USB PORT
USB to IBUS adapter
IBUS ADAPTER to Hd DICe unit which has internal IBUS to I2C board
I2C directly to HD Radio protocol

For simplicity purposes i listed RDS to mean both Analog and HD radio data. Basically the HD Radio unit sends the Station data back to the Ibus addressed to the BMW dashboard/telephone display, we have been to interperate the HEX string that displays Radio Station information.

Since we are operating via the BMW IBUS adapter we are not dealing directly with the HD Radio protocols. As i am no programmer and am merely just interpreting HEx data and controls i would suggest you talke with Mitch.
As of right now we have a stand alone program. We are just working on adding features such as presets and other data that comes from the unit.

I am working on the connector post 19 mentions a 1k resistor, post 34 mentions a 1 kohm and post 74 has a 10 ohm. Which is correct? Are they the same?

Also wiring on the Dice The Ibus connector has the Brown as 12+, White as Ibus data, and Black as Ground?

Dice has the audio as Black Ground, Black Ground, Red as Right? and White as Left?

Instaed of a 1\8 connector could I use the aux in on my SB gamer x-fi sound card, input is the same as old cd rom in 4 pin connector (same we are using on the Ibus usb adapter)

Can you post a picture of your connector. I want to ensure that DICE used the SAME wire colors on every unit. On the ibus forums i read that either a 1k or 10k ohm resistor will work. I tried both and it worked.

I would like to put together the how to for everyone who wants to start building. Once i get the ok from mitch i will post up the alpha version of the software for download.
right now this only give us debugging and basic controls. Mitch is building in the feedback code for Station information and Artist Text.

The antenna adaptor i used took a standard motorola cable and plugged it in..
im using the Stock Chrysler antenna and it works better than any headunit i have ever used.

Where did you get the adapter to convert the Dice (smb) to motorola? I would like to use my stock dodge antenna. The only one I could find was from Xtronic and the cost was $9.00 but the shipping was $20. Anyone stock these in the US and yes I have searched. It seems the HQCT crowd uses this adapter but I can't find it in the mp3car store either.

my understanding is the connector is called a farka connector. the metra part number is 40-EU20. ive boughten one of these antenna adapters at circuitcity.

I actually had a broken XM antenna and i used the end of that which is the same SMB i spliced it into a motorola cable

For all you waiting out there for a solution, I am almost there. I was able to borrow a dice unit from one of my friend's who was visiting and have 2 way control of the dice unit, along with setting the 'rdstext' and 'rdsname' for RR to display. It is still not stable to be released, also, I do not have the dice unit anymore and will only be getting mine at the end of the month so hopefully I will be able to release a fully working solution by mid april.

If I can order one and have it sent to you for you to finish, I will.
(I would want it back, though!) I am not sure that would give you much more time....
What else, EXACTLY, do we need hardware wise?

Well the stuff needed hardware wise has been listed numerous times in the post. But here it is again, you need an I-Bus interface (either serial or USB), a dice unit for a 2003 3-Series BMW, a 10K resistor and some wires.

The way this works exactly is by simulating a I-BUS which exists on a BMW and sending command sent by a BMW radio to the DICE unit and then interpreting the data sent by the DICE unit. I can have this software done real quick if i can get my hands on a unit earlier, since I own a BMW and am very familiar with interfacing thru the I-BUS and the commands on this IBUS. There is already software out there which will do this but its not presented in a nice interface to make the controlling of the DICE unit simpler.

My interface software is almost complete but I need to do more testing and as mentioned earlier I do not have a DICE unit at hand to test things.

Sorry to ask that question, but I seem to remember a post saying that the I-bus may not be needed, and also a post that questioned the resistor actually needed.
I'll see if I can get my dice unit in here ASAP. If so, I'll send it to you, but I may need some help from you getting it set up to work with my car pc when I get it back. I run RR, and the digital FX skin. I am good with hardware, but lost with the software side.

I just ordered a Dice unit with these options:

hd-bmw-t
2003 BMW 325
radio without navigation
standard radio system

I also ordered this from www.hacktheibus.com :

Reslers IBUS Interface v5

I'll grab a 10K ohm resistor from Radio Shack.
