You can pick up a Soundweb 9088 on ebay for around $400-700 USD, they also show up in the UK on ebay too. A 3088 would be perfect for a car application (no networked audio = cheaper). They can be Line, mic/line or AES inputs. If you had digital source (audigy?) and digital amps(?) you could stay digital all the way through your signal chain.

Any ideas on a price for the 3088? Also, any ideas of someone to modify the PSU for 12v use?

Yea, the last two are just an example of using different textures to achieve a themed look.
The point being you can create any kind of interface you want. You can even run the application in full screen mode (like kiosk mode for IE).

Download the software and start playing.

Another difference between Soundweb and London is Soundweb is a serial interface between PC and the device, London uses Ethernet.

I tested the Soundweb on an inverter, It booted fine, but I did not listen to the audio to see if I am getting any noise through the inverter. I am concerned because we use a switching power supply, and they do not like inverters. I may need help from the power supply guru's to modify the PSU for DC-DC operation. I have an inside track as I can get the schematics of the powersupply to work from.

Some additionl random facts:
Soundweb - 24bit 48k DAC's, 48k internal processing
London - 24bit DAC's, 48k/96k selectable internal processing
Single rack space design - both

I'm checking on current pricing. I can't publish dealing pricing, but I'm showing retail @ $2539 with line input cards (mic, line & AES available and change the price). I'm pretty sure we had a major price cut on this model in '07, so I've email the sales mgr asking for updated pricing. I'll follow up with a corrected price when I hear back. These devices were over $5000 when they first came out back in 1997, and we only recently dropped the price after moving manufacturing to the US.
You can pick up 9088's on ebay, they usually go for under $800, a steal when you consider what it can do.

There are only a few places that will do a box sale on these (we frown upon that as these devices require programming to pass audio), but I can help source these for anybody that is interested.

I do not know anybody that has done the 12v mod. I will be the first (hopefully with help here). If I can provide schematics, is there somewone here who colud help with the circuit modification?

wow, nice stuff... that looks so cool, & the software end looks to be more impressive that the 480 software for sure, since the software is going to be your whole interaction with the unit as a car install, I now see what you mean... cool

In terms of units around the 3sixty range, are there any options with S/PDIF in?

envisionelec could probably whip something up for the DC-DC PSU. He already did for the behringer units.

The 9088 digital card only supports AES.

In the Soundweb London line, the digital cards support AES or S/Pdif

A BLU-16 8x8 with digital cards is $2849 suggested selling price.
