durwood & ice -
I'm running into a bit of an issue with these VST plugins.
Take this free plug-in for instance: http://habib.webhost.pl/vst_eq31.php
In this picture:
It has a save button, yet, when I load it into the VST plug-in for WinAmp, the top part of it doesn't look anything like that.
So far, I haven't figured out how I would be able to save the settings I come up with in the EQs. Am I just simply overlooking something simple here?

I dont use the Winamp->VST DSP plugin, but when tested within CONSOLE those buttons (Save/Open) are also missing. CONSOLE however will save each plugins' state when you save the session. Perhaps that picture was a concept they never got around to finishing.

You can save them. Whatever preset you are in is what the settings are automatically saved to. If you press the preset which is visible from the winamp vst plugin and console, you rename the preset. Try making changes. Then switch to a different preset. Rename that preset and then make changes.
So to use it:
1) Click "Preset" button and rename it.
2) Then make your adjustments.
3) Click on the drop down and select another preset.
4) Click onthe "Preset" button and rename that 2nd preset and then make your adjustments again.
5) Now you should be able to switch back and forth between the two different presets.
Any changes you make to each preset are automatically saved from what I have seen.
Hope this helps.

ah ha!
well that's simple...
Have you messed with more than one of the free eqs? Just wondering if you've noticed a difference in them?
Iceman - what player are you using? - nm - found the PM from a few months back....

I tested a few but it was more along the lines to see if they would/wouldn't crash or if they did a decent job of EQing without being just plain crappy. I think that part is just going to be what you need. The best part is that its super easy to use another one without unintsalling it from your car. I want to get my TRUE RTA setup again and really do some comparison to see how accurate they work, but it's not going to happen right now.
I won't be available to do much testing coming up. Lots of big things happening that are going to cconsume my free time. This is going to have to take a backseat. I'll be around though and lend assistance when I can.

nooo!!!
I'll be testing the different EQs as well with the RTA.
I'll also be testing True RTA and the set-up I'm going to be running and comparing it side by side with an AudioControl here hopefully in the next week or so.
Tomorrow, I think I'm going try and solder on the RCAs to the sound card so I can actually have some output....lol
Sorry to hear you will have to take a break from this project. I understand how it goes though...sometimes it seems like it's overwhelming, what with all of the information out there and the fact that it's not exactly something where we can just follow directions...
Iceman - do you already have a fully functioning system in your car that you do all of your tuning on? I don't know much about what your doing..sorry... - nm - I just remembered the PM that you sent a few months back...

hahaha. Well good news is I close on a house Dec 29. Even better news I will have a garage finally!
The House always wins...over the car that is. I'm not done, just the next month or so will be busy busy busy...
I'll play with software but just no measurements can be made.

Does anyone here only use the KX project driver ???
If yes, it would be nice to start a new thread on it to show how to get the best out of it...
I ask it because it is, in my opinion, the cheapest way to get good result...
Thanks!

I'm not using it, and I don't believe that Durwood is either. Main reason? It's not flexible enough to do what we need. It's quite limited. I'd equate it to the cheaper processors out there when compared to the Alpine.

Why? Because it lack a 30 band EQ? Or its not accurate? The SQ is'nt good enought?
I know that you compete in high level, but do you think it is a acceptable way to get a very good SQ on a everyday ride?

We aren't using it because it doesn't have the tunability that we need.
Yes, it is absolutely possible to get excelent SQ out of an everyday ride....we've done it in our car that we compete in. I drive it daily.
We haven't persued the KX project becuause it is very limited compared to what we need. I don't believe that there is anything wrong with it.
However, if you can't tune, you can't achieve the SQ you might need or want. Having speakers that can accurately reproduce sound is only a part of the equation...which is why install and tuning are so important.

Yes it's definitelly the easiest and cheapest. I would say its similar to what you might find in a HU with limited adjustablity. I remember I said I would do a write up on what the best way to use it for car audio in my opinion. I'll hold true to that. Check back here later in the afternoon tomorrow. I'll start a separate thread for it.
Here is what you can get out of it:
12/24db octave crossovers
Parametric EQ
Time delay
Those are the only things I would use in the KXproject. I understand it will fit your needs as well as the needs of many others due to it's free and Creative Audigy cards are easy to come across.
Red is right though, it's not advanced enough for her or myself or a few other users, and that is why we did not persue it that hard.

i agree with what durwood and red have said; but having used kx (for a short time) in the car, it is well worth the money and time spent to set it up... sure there are a lot of shortcomings but for commoners like ourselves it can do nicely. I; however, had better results when i combined an external x-over/line driver with my sb live 5.1/kxproject combo.
btw... nice components you got there
