hmm, the more I read, the more I see dual (or quad) core's will be a nice benifit in full audio processing....

ok, more digging is definatley in order here

yeah man, I planned a socket 479 pentium m 2.2 with a 533 fsb, 2 gigs of ddr2 533 ram, & intels 915 chipset & a laptop drive... the whole system idles at under 60 watts

I don't know if I'm willing to put a huge hot sucker in there that's going to be a power hog...

get ready to buy multiple PSU's. luckaly I didn't buy a dc-dc yet, cause I still haven't got the mobo and cpu to work yet, with a 300watt ac-dc PSU.... tomorrow, I'm gonna see if it is really the PSU that comes short or if I'm having some other problem....

The weird thing is I hooked up nothing but the mobo to the PSU yet.... No HDD's, cd-rom, dvd or anything.... the cooler gives a spin and cuts out..... I'm really hoping it is the PSU.... and if it is, I'm getting prepared to buy 2 DSATX'es....

yeah, a 2.2 is over $600, but how much worse is it than a dual core in performance?

couldn't tell you.... only thing I know is my pentium D 3.4 dual was only $230.... for that extra cost (or probably less) of an m I could easily buy an extra or heavier PSU

Core 2 duo is DEFINITELY the CPU to get.. I wouldn't consider buying anything else:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...oc.aspx?i=2795
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/...out_athlon_64/

It performs better than anything else and does it while consuming less wattage than anything else.

knowing that when you buy a core 2 duo now, in a few months it will be out-dated.... No thank you, I'll pass...

I understand why you would choose the core 2 duo route, but I'm not the one who is gonna spend all that money on something that I'm tossing in the trash in a year or so....

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. These CPUs are a very good value for the money. I paid $183 shipped for my E6300 and it's running at 3GHz @ stock voltage right now (which is faster than a E6800 which is WAYYYY faster than a 3.4GHz Pentium D).. and why would you toss it in the trash in a year or so?

once again it's proven the US pricings are cheaper then EU.... well I may upgrade later.... for now I'll be good with it....

You're probably right though

How much power does your E6300 draw? edit: 65watt apparently..... OK, didn't do my homework verry well

According to this it uses 113w of power under full load. Still, that's at 100% load, and the faster the CPU the less % load the audio processing is going to put on the CPU. If you left it at stock speed it would only be 60w.

according to this it's only 65watts... weird....

Oh well, nothing I can do about it....

Possibly look at AMD X2 chips.

I honestly havent done much research on these, but from a quick glance, they are able to give a little less performance than a Core Duo, but only use about 10Watt at full load.

At stock speed it uses 60w, but mine which is running 60%+ faster than stock eats up 113w.
