ESI is the sister company to Audiotrak. Esi is also the future successor of the two, as it seem Audiotrak is winding down in terms of support

Ya the USA website is no good, but for they are pretty up to date on the UK/German/and Japan websites though. Maybe they plan on pushing ESI products in the USA. It's typical if one brand has a stronger rep in one country to stick with it.

As far as shielding material goes, can anybody give me insight as whether to use copper or aluminum? I think the shield on the hifi is aluminum.

The Hifi uses aluminum but copper is excellent for rejecting EMI noise as well. I would wait to see if you still have noise problems on the new board until you fabricate a shield.

Regarding synchronising Video and Audio back together after audio processing latency:

If you are using media player classic (via your frontend):
Click View -> Options
Select 'Filters'-->"Audio Switcher"

Type in the necessary millisecond value in "Audio Time Shift (ms):" to re-align the streams, BUT put a - sign in front! (a postive value will delay the audio, a negative value will delay the video instead)

Tick the "Audio Time Shift" box
Click "OK"

EDIT: If using Roadrunner, make sure to have the path to Media player Classic setup. And place a tick in "Use External Player" in Video settings.

I found that MPC did not embed seamlessly, you could always see the application load and move into position .

Thanks ICEMAN for this tidbit. Also, thanks again for your help setting up my soundcard too. I was a little confused at first but you got me all straightened out.

Thanks to all of our hardwork here, my buddy is considering a PC setup now instead of his Alpine/Alpine PXA-H701 setup.

$50 off for Frequency Allocator if you purchase before Christmas!

Guess that's what you were referring to Durwood...went ahead and jumped on that while it was discounted...

Got my Behringer and mic preamp in as well yesterday.

Also, recieved the RCA sockets yesterday as well. Have already desoldered the 1/8" sockets, now to find speaker wire I'll need....

hehe - you can buy it now and mess with it....go ahead and jump on the good pricing while it lasts!

So I've just registered the software and I'm going through the audio settings. The X-Meridian sound card uses a C-Media chipset. I can go into the C-Media ASIO control pannel in here and select the bit-depth and the latency. I'm not sure if this contradicts the thought that this card did not support ASIO or not....I'm still a little fuzzy on it.

Technically that means is DOES support ASIO. No point having those options if it doesnt. The interesting part will be if it can capture the windows audio streams like DIRECTWIRE, or if you need to use ASIO4ALL. Hopefully its not the latter.

Keep us posted Red, I was thinking of upgrading to this card in the future.

Regarding the like directwire functionality.

I emailed Auzentech and the guy that responded didn't really have a clue what I was talking about, but mentioned that they were going to check with C-media as to the functionality since they are using the C-Media 8788 chipset.

So I figured I would just go check with C-media myself....see what I can come up with....we shall see!

btw - here's the screen shots:

I don't think you would need ASIO4ALL since that is more of a generic driver for non-ASIO soundcards. I Thought the X-Meridian was ASIO since they ahd the logo but never specifically stated it was ASIO compatible. RED has just proved it is.

Now for the directwire feature, maybe the Auzentech guys will come up with something. Otherwise I think this will work. It's called Virtual Audio Cable. It grabs the audio streams and sends them to ASIO for cards without directwire.

Downside is...it's another $50 you need to spend.

I've just regsitered on the CMedia forum to ask about any DirectWire functionality.

If I can find it, it would be that much sweeter!

Is this essentailly the same thing as console?

Hmmm...You might be right about that. I'll look into some more.

From what I can see, The console does more than VAC since it can conenct VST plugins together.

Quote:
In addition to ASIO, console also supports DirectSound and MME, so you can use the driver that best suites your situation. For ASIO, multi channel I/O is supported.

Quote:
console is a plug-in host that allows you to freely combine plug-ins of different formats such as VST2.0 and DirectX (DX) audio. Its modular system allows for flexible routing, and together with its intuitive user interface, enables sound creation at the next level.

VAC:
Quote:
Virtual Audio Cable is a Windows WDM multimedia driver allowing you to transfer audio (wave) streams from one application to another. It creates a set of "Virtual Cables" each of them consists of a pair of the waveform input/output devices. Any application can send audio stream to an output side of a cable, and any other application can receive this stream from an input side. All transfers are made digitally, providing NO sound quality loss. VAC is a "wave-version" of the "MIDI loopback cable" like MultiMid or Hubi's Loopback drivers.

If more than one applications are sending audio to VAC, it will mix all streams together. If more than one applications are receiving audio from VAC, it will share the same audio data between all targets.

VAC is useful to record application's audio output in real time (for example - Generator, Reality or other software synth), or transfer a sound stream to another application processing it. You can, for example, use two or more software audio generators/synthesizers/sequencers to produce audio streams sending them to VAC Out, and record the mixed stream from VAC In using any recording software - Windows Sound Recorder, Sound Forge, WaveLab, Cool Edit, Gold Wave, Cakewalk, Cubase etc.

With an ASIO wrapper like ASIO4ALL from Michael Tippach, you can use VAC in ASIO supporting applications.

If you use an audio encoder application that encodes a stream coming from a sound card, you can use VAC to supply such encoder with a stream produced by other application.

You can use VAC to "thief" an output sound stream from the application that doesn't allow to write it into WAV file directly. Unlike Total Recorder allowing you to simply save audio stream, VAC allows to route it in real time.

PowerDVD/WinDVD -> uses Multi channel MME
Winamp -> uses WDM/directx/MME

I was going to find out what the differences are since I have to wire both WDM and MME to the ASIO in the Directwire of the Prodigy.

Here's a good read too
