We have to define our problem before we can come up with a solution. (It's an engineering thing)
Problem: There is no external soundcard/DAC that has low levels of jitter combined with high voltage multi-channel outputs (more than 2), that does not run on 110V AC in a small package, and has interchangeable parts such as opamps/caps/DAC's for customizing the sound.
I think that sums it up for everyone listening. Correct?

Aparently I wasn't all that knowledgeable about usb audio
If the software that is going to be used can support output to multiple audio devices, you could just use 4-5 stereo dac's on one PCB, with one PSU and a USB hub to only use one USB connection (if bandwidth allows for this, but I guess it should).
That way your computer will recognize 5-6 devices (dac's +hub) but you can use them the way you want!
Even using some outputs for different audio output/multi zone (wireless headphones?)...no problem as the computer sees the different channel pairs as different devices!

Damn..... Should've had a look at this thread from the beginning.... Interesting! And if the DAC gets built, you can be sure I'll take one.... Hell, now I'm gonna read the whole thread

we really need to know if multiple usb dac's can be used simultaneously to begin with.... this would make off the shelf very practical...

Wouldn't that require some software-adjustment, for tweaking the DAC's simultaniously?
