hey ya
hey ya, ok, where i used to live i my ceiling caved in, smashed my laptop screen clean off, and all, for ages ive tinkered with my laptop and it is now working, with a very loose screen. i did toy with the idea of a car puter, previously, but now i need to purchase very little.... i have wireless internet [my mobile], can connect the laptop to my stereo for audio output etc, so not too hard im thinking...
Only problem - which i am about to search about, - and im thinking wont be too difficault, is replacing the standard 240 - 17v adapter with a 12v to 12v adapter.... and then this problem
my vaio has a seperate panel on top with power lights and power switch...
im hoping to remove this panel and shift the whole thing to by my stereo.
i notice its on a band of twelve wires... im wondering, does anyone know of any extention cables i can purcahse [need to be about 2 meters...]
i dont feel too confident with soldering, and the laptop now works etc, i dont wanna cock it up and all.
the laptop fits in my glovebox nicely, and i have holes already in the back... only problems being minor as i can see...
PCG GR114EK Sony VAIO is the laptop im using for the project.
ALSO. Are there any laws in the UK that anyone knows about saying the display must be off?...
if all goes well i intend to mod my car with a couple of cameras on front and back as parking sensors. - as my laptop has a number of USB ports.
I have got the idea of fitting an additional couple of screens on the back too, for DVD playback. But that comes later, and i believe i can manage that easily enough once the install is there.
im attaching a couple of photos about my power...
the band has pin 2 and six need sparkin to turn off and on, so i know the mod displayed is possible, but like i said if i can move the whole panel without too much hassle, even better... - this is mostly because on this panel is an additional card reader.

EDIT: / ADDITION:
ok, i would just like to say thanks for this post, i have gone with this option, only slightly moddified since i stood on my power button - so soldered to two PWR pins on the main mobo - it was terrifying, but managed to do it :P Cheers.
its not that hard once you actually do it. i just need to put the little adapter ETC on the case now - should fit nicely where the modem is - i feel. :P - maybe even using the modem.
