Then if you have a need for 5v, 12v, and 19v regulated output, I would suggest something like a CNX-P1900 with an add-on CNX-P5V.

Yes, it's more expensive, but it's the right way to do it.

@Sicarius : Actually my Acer Laptop is very old and i dont expect it to run longer. As far as i have learned, Carnetix CNX-P1900 would not help me in case some time later i go for a PC based Carputer. Am I right?

Correct, the Carnetix is more for laptops and things like Mac Minis with a single voltage power input plus some accessories.

If you're looking to future-proof your install then what you have in your first post should still work just fine.

@Sicarius : Thanks a lot for clarifying my doubts.

As all the guys are pointing out that two DC-DC converters in series is not efficient. I redesigned the wiring.

You can still follow your first diagram (with M2ATX) if you need to keep it simple and reuse M2ATX for your later build. But M2ATX is an overkill to power just the accessories and screen.

One basic change I would recommend in your first scheme is instead of connecting the laptop car adapter(12-19V) to M2, connect it directly to Switched IGN of your car. So instead of 2 DC DC converters coming in series, they would now take parallel paths which is better.

If you want to do it the cheap way with LM317/7812, just google for their datasheets are they are simple and self-explanatory.

@DigitalVampire : Connecting laptop using relay to M2-ATX gives me an option to use the Delayed Timing option of SSC.
Any particular reason you want me to use IGN circuit and not the last design, which has both the DC-DC converters in parallel?

IIRC, the Carnetix has similar timing configuration adjustements.
Besides, if your laptop has a functioning battery, what do you care when the power is turned off? You have a battery...

Again, you can use the M2 in the manner you suggest.
Understand that this is NOT what the M2 is desgined to do and is going to require some extra work to get it to function.
Personally, I think this route is unnecessary and adds a layer of complexity you don't want in your install. When the PC in your ride starts having issues, you'll be the one doing the troubleshooting and a "hacked" piece of equipment (like the M2ATX in your diagram) adds to the difficulty of troubleshooting.
