Minikeyboard maxiproblem

This is my new keyboard for in-car use.

This is the story: it works with my home computer but doesn’t work on carputer! I can’t enter in bios and Windows tell me that the keyboard is not recognize and doesn’t work. All the 3 leds blink all the time.
Any suggestions?

p.s. It doesn’t work also if I put it on another usb port or if I disconnect all the others usb peripherals. Maybe it's an amperage problem?

Use a PS/2 keyboard to get into the BIOS. Check for an option to enable USB keyboard. Also, make sure USB legacy devices are enabled, as well.

Save those settings, then plug your USB keyboard in, and you shouldbe golden.

You have to enable the USB keyboard in the BIOS by means of a normal keyboard. If your BIOS does not contain a menupoint like that, I am afraid you won't be able to use it.
Unless you have a USB/PS2 convertor given with the keyboard.

It's not so so simple

It works only if I connect it to a mini usb 2.0 hub, bus powered or self powered is not important, it'works the same. I added a 10uf condenser on VCC and GND of the motherboard port... no go. 100uf... no go. 470uf... no go. I think it's not a voltage fluctuation and I think it's not an amperage problem... using the mini hub bus powered it't ok

Any suggestion?

Strange one. Can you duplicate the problem with another usb keyboard? I know you tried it on another pc, but try swapping the kb.

On the carpc you mean?
In that case the kbd electronics is not up to usb spec. Have experienced that with customer board in the past; works on some pcs, on others only through a hub. Turned out some electronics in the usb-lines was not in place. Obviously some computers tolerate more signal distortion than others.

Easiest solution is probably to keep your minihub between kb and pc.

Yeah! I've connected a tester to VCC and GND pins of my mobo... 4.8V... put the mini hub... retested... 4V
Ok... 4V is out of specs but... it works... without mini hub (4.8V powered) it doesn't work. Supermegakeyboard

The problems are not end... I can't enter bios using minikeyboard, but I can use it in Windows. Maybe putting an usb-ps/2 adaptor...

USE a PS/2 adapter and ditch the whole USB keyboard idea. NO need to over load your USB if the keyboard truly is pushing it over the edge. You will want USB for other things that will require reliability. US your PS/2 ports for what they are for and your USB for accessories.
This whould ensure your keyboard will work right and you can use your USB devices reliably.
