Lightbulb Dual mice and Dual Pointers

This morning I was thinking about it and having two mice on one computer controlling to seperate pointers would be awsome for a carputer. The idea is that with multiple displays I can have two things going on at once. Kids playing with a drawing game in the back and me playing my music in the front. Two pointers is a very beneficial feature in this respect since focus of the mouse will not be lost from screen to screen and from user to user.
Also allowing me to only have one computer in the car. Since one computer in my car takes enough space on it's own.

Anyone ever do this or know how to do it?

You can download programs to do this. Windows natively does not support this at all.

I remember this from long time ago. Not sure if it would serve your purposes now, but anywho.

If that doesn't work, here it is. http://cpnmouse.sourceforge.net/

I didn't use it so you have to try it.

If you go with Linux, you can go ahead and create another display and run some kind of window manager on it.

Not sure if you can do that in windows, but I'm doing it now on a car. And if all else fails, stick a $50 laptop in the back and SSH/VNC in....

That way everyone's happy....

Its not a hard thing to do.

You still only have one X pointer though AFAIK. Actually this is being fixed at the moment, the MPX project is coming along. Probably going to be installing that soon myself on my own rig.

True that one X window session might be able to have one pointer, but I know there are ways of getting two window managers to run. Otherwise how would *Nix servers run? All the users on it couldn't share the same mouse pointer.......

Good point.

I've been using linux a long time, but only started venturing out of the CLI in the last year and a 1/2. I think I've run remote Xsessions about once. I wonder what the performance hit would be, I image it would be transferring all the graphics over the socket connection.
