How to control radio with a keypad?

I want to put some kind of a USB radio into my car, possibly a RadioShark, but I'm not sure exactly what kind to get yet. What I want to do is be able to enter the radio station I want into a keypad, and have it switch to that station. For example, I type into a keypad, "1003" and it will switch to 100.3. What software should I use to do this? Is it even possible? What hardware would produce the best results?
