So, as I sit looking at my new Car2pc, I can't help but think "Why can't I have my cake, and eat it too?" Currently, I have the DICE ipod hookup for my iPhone, and it works great to play my mp3s over the stock radio. My CarPC is back up and running, and I'm sure the Car2pc will make listening to the mp3s on it much easier, but I feel as if it will still be easier to use my phone as the primary mp3 player for shorter trips, plus the DICE also acts as my main phone charger. However, the DICE unit and the Car2pc both use the same J-02 port on the back of the radio. So then an idea popped into my head; why not keep both of the boxes plugged in, just isolated via a switch?
Think of it as a Y-junction, with the tails of both the Car2pc and DICE unit going into the 16 pin factory harness which came with the DICE unit. Looking at the Car2pc harness, there are seven wires that might need to be switched. The biggest problem I've found is that online the largest toggle switches I can find are 4 pole. I'm pretty sure in order for this to work it would need a minimum seven pole/single throw switch. A two way rocker switch would be even more perfect. Anyone more experienced in Electrical Engineering come across anything like that? Or is there some other way to construct the switch I'm not aware of? (Gate switch?) (Of course, I’m pretty sure it could be done using either two separate four pole switches (3 ways), or 4- four pole switches (2 way), but that would be a bit of a pain.)
A member of another forum suggested that not all seven wires would have to be switched (for example, leaving the 12V and ground wires permenantly attached to both boxes), but without a pin diagram for the car2pc-maz or the J-02 input port on my stock headunit, or at least an idea of which wire did what, I'm not comfortable that I'd be wiring in the switch without hurting anything.
I've got an '07 Mazda 6 with Bose system. Anyone have any ideas which Car2pc wires would need to be switched?
Here's a diagram of what the connectors look like, first the 16 pin mazda specific, then the (atx?) clip that goes into the car2pc itself, with the corresponding colors. Hopefully this clip is relatively standard between the different models.
