Moving head unit in glove box will it be ok

I have a pioneer head unit that I want to mount in the glove box. Will the remote be able to work with the unit with the glove box closed.

If it is an IR remote it needs line of sight. If it is radio based, then it will be distance limited, and metals will interfere.

Ok. I dont have room on my dash for the head unit because im installing a LCD in the double din area. So im trying to find a place for my head unit.

I have my Pioneer HU in the glove, but I don't use the remote.

And from memory the remotes are IR so you may have to move the sensor out of the faceplate and put it in the dash somehow.

However there is a unit that allows the PC to communicate with some pioneer HU's

yes they are IR

You mean this one?, thought they where also meant for the radio to controle the cpc.

Easy answer. You should pick up a device by Peripheral, model PVIRT, which is an inferred extender.
Simple explination: It has an IR receiver that you install in plain sight, dash, that you point the remote at. It then takes that signal and replicates that in a isolated location, glovebox, where the IR emitter is also postioned towards the device you wish to control is located.

Well, if you don't have space for the HU you could start doin' some modifications to your center console if you still want your HU in the dash. If you have the courage to do this, you could start a thread in the Fabrication forum, posting an image of your center console, and I'm sure somebody will be glad to help ya' out with your project.

I decided that Ill buy a under dash radio kit and install it under my dash. That way my remote can control the head unit without any problems.

those IR extenders work pretty good. We used them in a home theater install, had a big massive radio remote that could run anything and everything (including the lights) but much of the equipment used IR. Ended up getting something similar to the extender that would take signals from the radio remote and then relay them through IR to a little emitter that stuck onto the component just over the IR receiver.

As for my install in my truck I opted to go with an under dash mount like you mentioned. I had to make my own install spot though. Currently working on it but its coming out good so far.
