Diameter of Griffin PowerMate knob?

Hi. I'm new to these forums and I was hoping someone could tell me what the diameter of the Griffin PowerMate knob is - not the base - just the knob. All of the specs I've seen list the thing as having a 2.1" diameter but I'm almost certain that is the bottom part which sticks out a bit further than the knob.

I'm ordering one of these things and I want to be sure it will fit where I have in mind. I'm going to remove the base part with the LED for mounting purposes...

The knob itself is closer to 1.75" ... that is with a ruler laid across the top of it, not with a caliper. It actually looks like it might be a shad under that.

This is actually a question I've been meaning to ask. Does anyone know if something similar to the powermate exists that is closer to 1" in diameter? Can the knob on the powermate be removed and replaced with a custom knob? I don't want to go and buy one and take it apart only to find that the inner workings are taking up all the space
