I'm working on putting my eee in my car using the origoinal touchscreen and was concerned about how the resistive touch panels have such low clarity and light transmission. So i started looking for different kinds of touchpanels and came across this:

I looked around to see how much they cost and it looks like the only way to purchase them is in bulk (15 minium at $69) at this site:

i just logged on as guest. I don't know if this is news or not, but i thought i would share. It seem like a saw touchscreen would be a step up from the regular resistive technology.

Its not new technology, sorry.
Search around, theres a ton of posts about SAW touchscreens.

They are much clearer than resistive, you're right about that.
